With the rise of fibre broadband services, users are subjected to blazing-fast internet connectivity. This has clearly altered the way we consume media. Cogeco in Canada is one such company that provides super-fast fibre broadband functionality along with telephony, television, and entertainment services.

Cogeco primarily targets residential customers in Quebec, Ontario, and Atlantic Canada. Founded in 1957, the company features more than two million subscribers (as of 2021) and is one of the leading telecommunications companies in the country. And with its competitive prices and reliable services, Cogeco consistently strives to meet its customers’ needs.

Currently headquartered in Montreal, Cogeco is also well-known for its round the clock customer service support, boasting a team of experienced and talented professionals. However, there are a few areas where the company could use improvements, most notably in its coverage, as its service is only available in a limited area. Additionally, Cogeco also needs to curb its plan prices, which get raised considerably after two years of subscription.

If you are a current Cogeco customer and you feel that your present requirements are not particularly well served by the company, then a change in broadband provider might come in handy. We have rounded up a step-by-step, in-depth guide on how you can cancel your Cogeco broadband subscription.

What is Cogeco’s Cancellation Terms?

Cogeco allows its customers to cancel their broadband and/or TV services at any given moment by contacting the company’s customer care team and specifying the required service termination date. Keep in mind that you, as a customer, will only be liable for the payment of the price of services provided to you until the date of cancellation. Additionally, if you cancel your service before the end of your offer period, you will be charged an early termination fee.

Apart from the cancellation of services, Cogeco also states that you will have to return any leased equipment that may be present in your possession. For the return process, ensure that you pack your equipment and its accessories properly and then drop the package off at a nearby Canada Post outlet. And based on where you reside, you need to furnish your return ID number to the Canada Post employee. For instance, for Ontario customers, the return ID is PR489756, and for Quebec customers, the return ID is PR341976.

Lastly, you will have a maximum time limit of 21 days from the date of cancellation to return your equipment. If Coegco does not receive your equipment within the designated 21 days, then an additional charge between $125 and $400 will be levied on your account, based on the cost of the hardware used by you.

How to Cancel Your Cogeco Broadband?

If you have already read through the cancellation policy of Cogeco and want to go ahead with the process, then be sure to follow the below-mentioned steps judiciously.

  1. Begin the process for cancellation by calling Cogeco customer care at 1-866-428-3517. Phone lines are live seven days a week, from 8 AM to 9 PM (ET).
  2. Navigate through the IVR (Interactive Voice Response) menus and proceed to speak to a customer care executive.
  3. Once a live agent connects to your call, provide your Cogeco account details and ask for an immediate cancellation by specifying your preferred date for cancellation.
  4. The customer care executive will first verify your account information, and once the verification is complete, you will be required to state the reason for your cancellation. Proceed to explain the problems you faced with their service(s).
  5. Based on the grievances you state, the customer care representative will present relevant solutions and offers, so you may be enticed to not leave Cogeco.
  6. If you are not satisfied with the solution or offers provided, you can go ahead and make a final call for cancellation.
  7. At this point, the customer care executive will register a service cancellation request on your account. If you have more than one service under your account, ensure that you specifically state the service(s) you want to terminate.
  8. After that, you will be debriefed on your final bill, which may include partial charges (based on your billing cycle) and early termination charges.
  9. Once done, you will receive a confirmation message on your email address stating the successful registration of the cancellation request.
  10. Finally, proceed to pay for the due amount pending in your account and then arrange for shipping back any leased equipment.
  11. Once your leased equipment reaches the company address, your Cogeco account will be deactivated.
