JetBlue is an American low-cost carrier with its main flying base in John F. Kennedy Airport, New York, and has been in operation for over two decades now. It has competed with other airlines to grab the top spot in the US today. It was originally called NewAir and was launched in 1999. It is no mean feat to remain irreplaceable for years if it’s not for the top-notch services it offers to its fliers (and at affordable prices) right from check-in to landing.
You will be in for a surprise at the good deal of in-flight amenities JetBlue has to offer to its customers despite being a budget carrier. TV, radio, complimentary snacks and beverages, more legroom, et al at unbelievable flight rates. It is not a surprise that the airline has expanded to connect the whole of Americas today and is flying numerous international routes because of its popularity and impeccable reputation in its services as a passenger carrier.
JetBlue was also an odd exception that had a no flight-cancellation policy for the longest time but had to eventually revoke it when they realized that natural events are beyond the airline’s control and there are situations that force flight delays and cancellations. They have also consistently maintained their safety record and very few major incidents have been reported in their 23 years of operation.
Currently, it serves domestic ports within the States besides serving Canada, Central and South America, the Caribbean Islands, and the UK. Now, if you ever find yourself with a missing or lost luggage after having flown with JetBlue, here’s what to do,
Approach the Lost Property Office
Do not press the panic button when you see the last bag getting picked at the baggage carousel without any hint of your bag showing up. Do not stress your already jetlagged mind. This would only mean that your bag got stranded in transit.
When the realization dawns, head straight to JetBlue’s Lost Property Office/Baggage Claim Office to file a report. This will serve two purposes — one, it gets the airline in the loop; second, it creates a paper trail just in case you decide for a financial claim or reimbursement later.
Please give accurate and full details of the items lost; flight details; flight ticket/boarding pass details; a valid contact information where they can reach you to inform the status of your baggage claim or even deliver it to you when located; name of the brand of your suitcase; size/color, or anything that will be useful in tracking the bag/s in the shortest time. Also, ensure that you write down the name of the officer who helped you in the process, a reachable contact number for follow-up, get a copy of your report, and retain the file reference number they hand out to you.
If you have just remembered leaving behind your bag at the waiting area, boarding gate, or the airplane, let the crew know before leaving the airport premises. They will make the necessary arrangements to deliver them to you.
The sooner you lodge a missing report, the better. All damaged/delayed/lost baggage cases are best reported while still at the airport, but in case you realize the loss only upon reaching your destination (hotel, home), you may take the online route asap, fill out and submit their web form. JetBlue officials will communicate with you through emails with all updates.
Fill the Online Baggage Claim
Please remember to call the JetBlue Central Baggage department at 1-866-538-5438 within four hours of your landing if you must make a bag claim after leaving the airport. They are your primary contact for all information regarding bag claims. For all online submissions, make sure to include the flight number and date. Upon submission, they send you a confirmation email from the Lost and Found Office. Unlike most airlines, JetBlue continues bag search for up to 30 days (the standard timeframe is 21) after a report is filed. They keep you updated via email. Please check out the link here.
For any financial claims, you will need to retain your baggage claim tickets (bag stubs), PIR number, boarding pass/flight ticket, ownership proof, picture of your bag ( if any), etc. The compensation or reimbursement, in case of total loss or damage to items, is in line with the carrier’s terms and conditions.
Call Customer Service on Helpline
If you have to register a complaint on your lost or missing bag via phone, you can reach the customer support on these numbers – 1-800-JETBLUE /2583 (US), 08-082349058 (UK) and 0800-6648288 (Germany). The phone is, thankfully, not the only option for you to get the customer service executive to work on your case. Alternatively, access JetBlue’s social media handles to send out an SOS for someone to come to your rescue and resolve the issue with diligence. Here are their Facebook and Twitter pages.
The good news is ‘lost luggage’ is unheard of; 97% of passengers get their bags back because most are ‘delayed’, rather than lost. Bags get swapped on high-traffic days with back-to-back flights in schedule. The staff put the bags on the next flight. Rest assured, you will be reuniting soon, so it doesn’t pay to lose your cool. JetBlue uses sophisticated methods of locating lost bags, so it is only a matter of time before they reach you.
