This is one insurance company that has been around for 85 plus incredible years. Founded in 1936 in Fort Worth, Texas, Geico is presently headquartered in Chevy Chase, Maryland. The acronym stands for Government Employees Insurance Company but has been a misnomer because it always has been a private corporation. It was started with the intention of selling auto insurance to government employees at the time of the Great Depression. Today it ranks among the country’s top 5 insurance companies.

Geico has upped its game over the years, and from playing solo as primarily an auto insurance company today it has panned out to include other everyday products like property, business, and additional insurance like life, travel, umbrella, special event, pet, cell phone, and overseas insurance.

Geico is an A+ rated company in terms of customer and value-added services. If people are choosing Geico over its competitors in the market it is because of unbelievably low insurance rates and discounts like multiple car discounts; good financial strength with assets worth $32 billion and more, which puts them in a position to settle claims quickly; its Mechanical Breakdown Program which is a rare offer compared to most other insurance companies, Rideshare Insurance, and Accident Forgiveness programs. Overall, Geico is very hands-on!

If you ever need to file a claim at Geico, take the following routes (singly or in combination, whichever works for you).

1) Submit a Claim Online

Online processing is fast, efficient, and convenient when it comes to reporting and submitting claims. Click the link here to check on the ‘Report An Incident’ option. It will further direct you to the page where you will need to select the option that applies to your case to start a claim.

You will use the same link to Track your claim. Click on ‘Check Your Claim’ and you will be directed to another page where you will need to provide your full name along with your claim number and other details to gain access to your claim. You can also use the GEICO mobile app to report and track claims.

For claims, you will first have to log into your account and select the type of claim you need to report. For auto claims, you will need to furnish more details like the state where the incident took place, and time and date when it occurred, the contact information of third parties involved, vehicle location, owner information, police report, etc.

Once your claim is submitted, you will get a confirmation email. A claim examiner will be appointed to guide you through the process and will arrange for an adjuster to inspect the extent of vehicle damage at the location. In the meantime, the examiner reviews your coverage and contacts third parties to correlate facts and corroborate them. When they give the green signal, the claim goes under processing. This examiner will also be your first point of contact.

The process through the GEICO mobile app is just as seamless. Remember to upload pictures of the damaged vehicle. Please follow the link  for more details.

2) Call the Support Helpline

For vehicle auto claims, you call call +1800-841-3000, for commercial vehicle claims, you call call +1866-509-9444. Follow the link and check the type of insurance coverage you are looking for (property, business, miscellaneous). Select the company name or phone number that applies to you and speak to a GEICO agent about your problem before reporting the claim. They are authorized to guide you through the process.

3) Visit the Nearest Branch

You might not get too lucky here as GEICO is big on virtual but small on local. You might have to struggle to get an in-person appointment with a GEICO agent at a branch nearest your residence. GEICO believes in moving things fast online so you might have to keep trying your luck there. It attends promptly to online claims and/or calls from harried customers. Someone will get in touch with you to discuss the issue once your claim is submitted and the processing begins.
