The Indonesian birth certificate is the primary legal recognition of the identity of a child taking birth in the country. It is also the most crucial document in proving a child’s nationality and thereby required to get married, purchase a property, obtain a passport for travel and various other legal reasons. Children whose births are reported to get registered in the Indonesian Family Card and therefore given a NIK or Population Identification Number for gaining other community services from the Indonesian government.

All birth certificate details are primarily handled by the registrar offices in Indonesia, known as Catatan Sipil. In certain cases, where the child hasn’t taken birth in a hospital, then the above-mentioned procedure is handled by the village chief.

To apply for a birth certificate in Indonesia via the online procedure, follow the below-mentioned steps.

  1. First of all, you have to head over to the official online portal for the Indonesian government which handles the production of birth certificates.
  2. Proceed to log in with your ID and password. In case you don’t have an account, you can always register a new one.
  3. Select the application process for obtaining a birth certificate and start filling up the required details on the web page.
  4. Once you have successfully provided all the required information, you have to enter your phone number along with the scanned copies of the supporting documents. The documents need to be uploaded to the portal.
  5. After that, you’ll have the option to select the date as well as the service point from where you’ll be collecting the birth certificate of the child.
  6. Finally, complete the application process and download the application letter.

Apply For a Birth Certificate In-Person

For applying for a birth certificate in person or via offline procedures, follow the subsequent steps below.

  1. Firstly, you have to head over to your nearest service location for Administrative City Population and Civil Registration Sub-Department.
  2. Showcase the required supporting documents in original formats (as mentioned previously) to the officer in charge and obtain the application form.
  3. Fill up the application form on-spot and then submit the same, along with the photocopies of the supporting documents.
  4. Upon successful verification of the documents, a service time of five working days will be required by the department to provide the birth certificate.
  5. After the stipulated period of five working days, visit the department again and obtain the birth certificate.

Apply For a Birth Certificate via Mobile Car Service

In case you want to obtain a birth certificate via the mobile car service handled by the Indonesian government, follow the below-mentioned steps.

  1. Start by visiting the official Twitter page of the DKI Jakarta Population and Civil Registry Office.
  2. Look out for the schedule of the mobile car service.
  3. Once you’ve obtained the schedule, ensure that you keep your documents ready and head over to the spot where the mobile car services can be obtained.
  4. Showcase the supporting documents (original and photocopies) and fill up the application form.
  5. Upon successful verification of your supporting documents for identification, your birth certificate will be provided on-spot.
