Before the insurgence of the World Wide Web, people used to depend on traditional forms of communication, such as mail or newspapers, to keep themselves updated. But all that changed during the early 1990s with the introduction of the internet, making it accomplishable for people to connect, access information, and learn new things in ways that were not possible earlier.

Nowadays, getting access to a super-fast broadband service provider is as easy as filling out an online application. And that has only become possible because of technological innovation and networking evolution. Oi is one such operator, touted to be the largest home broadband service provider in Brazil with 10 million subscribers. The company is well-known for its fibre-optic network, offering reliable and high-speed internet services to its customers. Apart from offering broadband internet, Oi also offers fixed-line telephony and HDTV services.

However, Oi’s broadband service is still far from perfect as subscribers have regularly complained about the company’s expensive plan offerings while also having limited coverage across the country, making its service all the more inaccessible. With that being said, if you are looking for a broadband service provider that can fit your needs without having to sacrifice coverage, then cancelling your Oi broadband service is the most sensible thing to do. We have rounded up for you the steps you need to take to deactivate or cancel your connection.

Know the Cancellation Terms For Oi

When a customer signs up for Oi broadband, he or she will have the option to either opt to pay the registration fees and the first month’s payment or get exempt from the registration fees in return for a 12-month contract. If you are under a contract, then keep in mind that you will have the freedom to cancel your service at any time. However, if the contract is cancelled before the expiration of the denoted 12 months, then you have to pay an early termination fee.

The early termination fee will be proportional to the number of months left in your contract. For instance, if you cancel in the second month of your contract, you need to pay a cancellation charge of R$495. Similarly, if you decide to cancel your service in the tenth month of your contract, then you have to pay a lesser fee of R$135.

In addition to the above-mentioned cancellation clauses, customers also need to return any leased equipment (mostly broadband routers) provided by the company. The return process must be completed within 30 days of cancellation, and the equipment will be collected by authorised Oi staff. In any case, if the return of the leased equipment is not scheduled within 30 days of cancellation by the subscriber, the cost of the equipment will be charged to the user. Apart from that, the customer should also make sure to return the device without any damage, destruction, loss, or misplacement.

What are the Steps to Cancel Your Oi Broadband?

If you have finally taken the decision to cancel your Oi broadband service and opt for a different provider, then you can simply follow the below-mentioned steps for a seamless experience.

Cancelling via Phone
  1. Start the cancellation process by first calling the Oi customer service centre at 0800 031 3111. If you have a hearing impairment, then you can call 142 from any adapted telephone. Phone lines are open 24 hours throughout the day.
  2. Navigate through the IVR (Interactive Voice Response) menus and proceed to select the option to speak to a customer care executive.
  3. Once a customer care representative connects to your call, provide your Oi account details (full name, CPF, registered phone number, etc.) so that the customer care agent can retrieve your account details and identify you as an existing customer. After completion of the identification process, proceed to ask for the cancellation of your Oi broadband service and state your reason for the same.
  4. The customer care representative will try to persuade you from cancelling by providing you various solutions relating to the reason that you have mentioned; however, if you have already made up your mind, then push for the cancellation request one more time.
  5. The customer care agent will then let you know the terms of cancellation, the amount of cancellation charges you have to pay (based on your contract situation), and the procedure to return your leased equipment. Once you clear your payment and return the leased device, your service will be terminated, and you will receive confirmation messages at your registered email address and phone number.
Cancelling via Email
  1. Begin the service cancellation process by first drafting an email from your registered email address. If your email is not registered, then you can register it first by sending an email containing your full name, registered phone number, and area code to [email protected].
  2. The email should contain your Oi account details, including your full name, CPF, registered phone number, and plan details, along with your cancellation request and the reason for the same.
  3. Once done, send the email to [email protected]. Wait for a follow-up message from the customer care team at Oi.
  4. The customer support team will then let you know the cancellation charges in a follow-up email and will also guide you through the cancellation process and how you can return the leased equipment.
  5. After you clear your dues in full and return any rented device, your service will be terminated successfully.
