About Umaid Bhawan Palace
Jodhpur, a former princely state, and the desert capital of Rajasthan, is a popular Indian holiday destination, and home to the majestic Umaid Bhawan Palace, a heritage style boutique hotel, sitting atop the Chittar Hill, at the South of the old city. Acclaimed as one of the world’s largest private royal residences, the palace named after Maharaja Umaid Singh of Jodhpur, won the Travelers Choice Award, and ranked #3 by TripAdvisor as the best hotel of 2016.

Designed by the British Architect Henry Vaughan Lanchester, and built over 15 years, from 1929-1943, the architecture of the Palace, reflects Indo-Saracenic, Classic Revival, and Beaux-Art Deco styles. The Palace spread across a sprawling 26 acres of land, includes the 15 acres of land for the royal garden, the courtyards, and the entrance passage aisles.

In 1971, the Jodhpur Royal Family converted a part of the Palace into a hotel, and presently Umaid Bhawan is a multi-functional Palace, serving as the residence of the royal family, as a heritage boutique hotel run by the Taj Group, and as a museum of history and artifacts, about the royals of Jodhpur.

The luxurious Palace has 300+ exclusively styled rooms, a fresco vaulted banquet hall, private dining halls, the throne Chamber, a Durbar Hall, a large ballroom, meeting halls, library room, swimming pool, tennis courts, squash courts, and a billiards room. The heritage hotel of Umaid Bhawan has 64 luxurious guest suites, and a restaurant with a seating capacity of 300 people. The Museum of the Palace displays an eye-catching collection of vintage cars, clocks, porcelain wares, furniture, antique collectibles, and miniature paintings.

Built with golden-yellow sandstone and pink sandstone, the façade of the Umaid Bhawan Palace looks spectacular, capped with a central dome. Woodwork for the interior, has a rich finish of Burmese teak wood, along with Makrana Marble flooring and black granite for the lobby, and lounge areas of the Palace. A significant attraction of the Palace is the central vaulted dome, steeping at 103 feet, with painted frescos, and ornate ceiling work.

Best visited during the months of Oct-Mar, the Umaid Bhawan Palace, the Heritage Hotel and the royal garden is a prime attraction of Jodhpur, all through the year.
