We are 80 years of age three years ago we booked a trip withTrafalgar. A tour of WWW1and WWW2 battlefields which was cancelled because of the COVID pandemic. We had trip cancellation insurance but was refused because Trafalgar issued a voucher in lieu of a refund for $2300. We did not want the voucher but there was no option. The trip was prepaid and Trafalgar has had our money including interest on our money for three years.. we are older and do not feel comfortable using the voucher for a future trip. We were told that we would receive a refund but we still have not received our monies. It is almost impossible to contact their office in spite of numerous attempted calls we still have been unable to contact someone to resolve the issue. Buyer beware and be sure to read your trip cancellation fine print.
We are a returning couple with Trafalgar and brought a quest May 28 thru June 7, 2022 best of Italy. We purchased travel insurance through Trafalgar but only received our additional cost of flights back to the US but still nothing on our $2100 motel bill. It’s been 7 months and still nothing we are very upset over this as we submitted the covid results before and during the trip.
My sister and I were previous customers of Trafalgar and enjoyed the experience in Germany. However, last month I scheduled the Best of the Canyonlands USA Tour through the Trafalgar registration and me with total chaos. I began arrangements with one rep and, before I could complete it, it was inexplicably cancelled. I restarted under another booking number and did everything I possibly could to ensure a smooth experience, including prepaying for the gratuities and trip insurance, since my travel companion was 81 years old and in ill health. When she had to cancel, my sister stepped in and agreed to take her place. We had made separate air travel arrangements, so flight security issues were not a problem. I discovered the trip insurance had been omitted (the gratuities had not) and I was charged a 50% penalty for the change. Despite this, all the hotels still had my initial travel companion’s name, not my sister’s. I never was able to speak to the same registration person twice. If one has to use Trafalgar, I would recommend going through an agent and let them deal with the Trafalgar registration process.
We booked and paid for our tour. We then booked our flights and additional excursions. With no cause given, our tour was canceled. They tried to push us into other tour dates; my guess the date we chose wasn’t a full tour so they canceled it and tried to move us into another one to fill it up. This does not work for us for business and personal reasons. We spoke with customer service prior to and after booking and it was never mentioned that these dates may not be definite. In addition, we spoke with customer service after the tour was canceled and were basically told it was our problem. We have been loyal repeat Trafalgar travelers but will not book with them again.
From the itinerary 14-days Turkey, I note that we are not spending much time in Istanbul- 1/2 day with half day tour- afternoon is free. I was hoping to see more of Istanbul which is a great city with tons of history – This great city was on my bucket list for years. I was going to register for the fall tour but I notice your tour of Istanbul does not include the following:
Basilica Cistern, Grand Bazaar, Spice Market, Bosphorus Cruise, Dolmabahce Palace, Taksim Square, – most of all I did not want to leave Istanbul without visiting DOLMABAHCE PALACE (again on my bucket list). Is there a reason we are not spending much time in Istanbul? Is it because it is not safe? Years ago, this was all included on the second full day in Istanbul. This is quite a disappointment travelling all the way to Turkey – of the numerous travel Companies in N. America none conduct tours to Turkey except Trafalgar and it is a shame the itinerary does not spend much time Istanbul, which is a tour of a life time. Please take this up with the N.A.marketing Representative. Would like your comments. L.F
During our 2018 Trafalgar vacation, our tour director failed to grasp the seriousness of my wife’s food allergy. As a result, my wife suffered two reactions and numerous days of illness. This director even argued with my wife during an allergic reaction. You cannot imagine our deep disappointment with this director and Trafalgar for such a lack of comprehension and sensitivity. Our 2017 tour with Trafalgar was a dream because of the tour director. Sadly, the exact opposite experience took place in 2018 because of the tour director. Pre-tour info was provided to the director prior to the tour as well as upon arrival. This lack of awareness and preparation is unacceptable. As a result, it left us guarded and concerned for the balance of our tour. As a result, we can no longer recommend Trafalgar to any friends or family.
I am a returning customer with Trafalgar and was very disappointed with my last trip. I went with Cost Savers European Experience London to London this past May 12th to the 24th. My complaint is that we were not taken into the city of Rome with the tour bus if we did not purchase the optional dinner experience. My guests and myself had to find our way into the city. We took a cab into the center of Rome. We have been in Rome many times before and wanted to dine at the same restaurant as before. On my previous trips with Trafalgar the tour directors have always taken those who did not purchase the optional excursions into the cities and gave ideas of how we could spend our time and where to meet the tour bus with time for our return to the Hotel. We had to spend an extra 28 euros to and another 20 euros on our return to the hotel. Also when in Amsterdam my sister and her quest took a bus into the city because they did not purchase the canal excursion. I never heard of this happen before, I believe we pay for the Tour Bus to take us into the cities weather we choose to do optional excursions or not. This was my third tour with Trafalgar and I did not receive my gift, or as the tour director said we would receive a card as to go online to pick what we wanted. I did not receive a card. After this experience I have to consider if I or my family will be returning Trafalgar guests. It is a shame because my first two Tour Directors were excellent. This tour director was very experienced in the area, but did not give us what we paid for!
I am a return traveler with trafalgar and just arrived in Ireland today, and many of my group, including myself, are not happy. We were booked to stay at the Trim Castle hotel for our first 2 nights. Instead wewere switched to the Greenisle Hotel. There was no notice given to any of us before travelling. Not only do our families have the wrong contact information but this hotel, while beautiful, is located in a residential area. There is no shopping, no cafes, nothing. I am very disappointed and am sure you will be getting many complaints from my fellow travelers. Not even our tour guide had a clue that we all expected a different hotel.
