About Policia Nacional
Policia Nacional is one of the two chief law enforcement agencies in Spain. Also known as National Police Corps (Cuerpo Nacional de Policía – CNP), Policia Nacional is headed by the Directorate-General of Police and operates from its headquarters at Madrid, Spain. The various ranks within the force include Subdirector General, Comisario General, Jefe Superior, Comisario Principal, Inspector Jefe, Inspector, Subinspector, Oficial de Policia and Policia. Formed in the year 1978, Policia Nacional has a staff numbering close to 88,000.

Law enforcement in Spain is taken care by the Policia Nacional and the Guardia Civil. While the former deals with criminal offences and public order in big towns and cities, the Guardia Civil patrols rural areas, including highways and ports. Policia Nacional has branches spread across major cities and towns. There are also zonal and district commissioners.
