About Somerset House
Somerset House is a popular arts and cultural center in London. Located between the Strand and River Thames, the neo-classical building is a major tourist attraction and was originally the site of a Tudor palace. The 17th century building has been the palatial house for the royals. Visitors can find a courtyard that is surrounded on three sides with wings. In the middle of the courtyard is a large monument that honors George III. King George is said to have initiated the reconstruction of Somerset House.

Among the many attractions at the Somerset House is the Courtauld Gallery that showcases some of the best art from the Renaissance period. You can find here the works of Manet, Degas, Monet, van Gogh, Gauguin, and Cezanne, to name a few. Additionally, there are about 7,000 drawings and watercolors and 20,000 prints. Somerset House is also home to popular arts and creative brands, PR agencies, and advertising/branding groups. There is a co-working space for small businesses and start-ups too.

Somerset House is open all days. The Courtauld Gallery is open from 10am to 6pm, while the gallery and exhibition spaces is open from 10am to 6pm, and on few days from 11am to 8pm. The Victoria Embankment entrance is open from 8am to 7pm. The Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court and River Terrace and Seamen’s Hall is open from 8am to 11pm. Admission to Somerset House is free. However, a ticket is required for exclusive events and exhibitions. There are plenty of dining options within the complex. Restaurants and cafes you can find at the arts center include Fernandez & Wells, Pennethorne’s, Somerset House Terrace, Spring, Tom’s Kitchen, Tom’s Kitchen Deli and The Courtauld Gallery Cafe.
