About Immigration & Checkpoints Authority
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) is the chief agency responsible for immigration, customs and excise, besides securing borders in Singapore. The ICA is responsible to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Singapore Government. Headed by the Commissioner, ICA’s main checkpoints include Tuas Command, Woodlands Command, Singapore Changi Airport, Seletar Airport, Airport Logistics Park of Singapore, Parcel Post Section, Singapore Cruise Centre, Changi Ferry Terminal, Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, Marina South Pier, West Coast Pier, Port of Singapore, Sembawang Port, Jurong Port, Keppel Distripark and Ports Command HQ. The law enforcement agency administers immigration as well as scrutinizes applications for passport and identity card.

For information on the visas, US Passport Holders do not require a visa to enter Singapore for business or social visit purposes. Nationals from countries that include India, China, Russia, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran and UAE will need a visa. Travellers holding passports from 37 countries or regions need to apply for an entry visa. Nationals from other other countries can visit without an entry visa. They will be provided with a short term visit pass when they reach the country. During your stay in the country, you can even extend the short term visit pass for up to 90 days. Use the e-XTEND tool online to apply online for an extension of a short term Visit Pass. Also, use the Visit Pass Validity tool on the website to know the last day of your stay.

A visa application can be downloaded on the website and submitted with an authorized visa agent or Singapore Overseas Mission. Visa processing fees are paid upon submission of applications. Visa processing can take any time from 3 to 7 working days. The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority website is very resourceful and has tools to make appointment, submit applications and check status. If you applied for passport, identity card, entry visa, long term visit pass, student’s pass or others, you can check it’s status online.

As for submitting an application online for visa, passport or identity card, browse to the e-services and forms section on the website. You can apply for passport, re-entry permit, apply entry visa, extend social visit, get Immigration Pass, apply for birth/death certificate, and apply for permanent residence. If you want to apply for permanent residence, you must do via the SingPass portal. Note that passport applications can collect their passport from a SingPost outlet, at iCollect and even at ICA Building. For more information or queries on applications, visa status, refund, forms, downloads, or others, reach the Singapore immigration support.
