Ohio Stadium has to have the rudest ushers in the Big Ten conference. Today, I wanted to watch the IU and TBDBITL perform at the conclusion of the game. At the end of the game, the ushers in the south stands did a sweep telling those precious few who actually wanted to watch the bands perform to move. Why? What’s the point of that policy? There were few people who even want to watch the band. Now, you make them move? Even an older couple were asked to move. Seriously?
Anyway, I asked to where? One usher said he didn’t care but I saw that “down” was the apparently correct answer. I moved down to field level stands in the south end, where there is no depth of field, and the sound is directed away.
I wanted to take a video of the bands performing for my nieces. The video I got was not very encompassing, lousy. I wanted to get a video of the bands exiting the stadium, but that was apparently one minute too long for the state trooper. Before the band even got on the ramp, they started yelling that we had to leave the stadium. I was recording while they were yelling, and it was clear that I was taking a video of the band doing the exit ramp. No. I had to leave. I couldn’t even watch the exit. One minute too long, I guess.
I have no idea why you force people that want to watch the bands to move. Furthermore, moving down the stands where the view and sound is bad is even more unfriendly. The sass from the trooper at the end of the performance was unprofessional. What is one more minute until the band actually exits?
The in-stadium experience at Ohio State has really gone down hill for the past couple of years. At the Rutgers game, there was no coffee. At the Oregon State game, there was coffee, but no creamer or stirrers. The straws melted in the coffee (not sure that’s safe). I ordered a chicken basket that game, and I had to wait 5 minutes for my order of chicken basket to come (after they gave it to someone else, as Urban would say “Clown show”).
The entrance to the stadium is worse. Some gates are never open, and I’m being patted down now? That’s now a policy, to pat down people and do that stupid twirl for waistline.
I went to Michigan Stadium for THE game last year. Even decked out in an Ohio State jersey, the ushers were incredibly nice. I didn’t get a pat down, they didn’t want me to empty all my pockets, they didn’t ask me to lift my shirt and twirl in front of them. One nice gate usher lady even gave me a nice “Good day” with a smile. The concessions at Michigan Stadium are much more varied and interesting than at Ohio Stadium. They have many more choices. The price is still high.
Being my first time there, after the game I wanted to wander around the stands to take it all in. We did just beat our rival at there house. No problem. No ushers were there telling folks to move. No state troopers yelling at Ohio State fans to leave the stadium. Ohio Stadium staff could learn from the TTUN staff. Yikes.
TL:DR: As a long time customer of Ohio State football, the stadium experience this year has been horrible. Your policies make me question whether I want to come back in 85 degree heat just to mugged at the gate after waiting for an eternity. I have to ask “Do I want to get yelled at by the staff for being a loyal fan and supporting the band?”. I am no longer blaming the fans for not showing up. I’m not blaming students who leave at halftime. Now that your staff has become abusive and unprofessional I too will likely miss the dull games and leave before Carmen Ohio for those that I actually attend in the future.
