About NYC Ferry

NYC Ferry was launched in 2017 to make the waterfront commute easy for New Yorkers. This network of ferry routes is operated by the Hornblower Cruises and connects 21 ferry piers via five routes and one seasonal route. NYC Ferry spans 60 nautical miles and connects waterfront communities in Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, and Manhattan. The network is all set to expand to eight routes, extending its services to at least eleven million riders each year. NYC Ferry served more than 8.5 million passengers in 2019 through the six regular routes – East River, Astoria, South Brooklyn, Rockaway, Lower East Side and Soundview. The East River route connects to and from Hunters Point South to Pier 11, the South Brooklyn route connects Corlears Hook to Bay Ridge, Rockaway connects Wall Street/ Pier 11 to Rockaway, Astoria route connects between East 90th Street to Pier 11 and Soundview connects Clason Point to Pier 11. The St George route and Coney Island route will be operational in some time. The network is known to provide affordable and convenient transit to travelers who had limited transportation options earlier. NYC Ferry operates a total of 31 vessels, and each vessel provides half-hourly to one hourly service on each route. With the new expansion in the pipeline, NYC Ferry will be extending its existing system by adding Staten Island. Passengers have submitted a positive view of the NYC Ferry system, with almost 93% of the riders registering positive ratings.

With over a half million people living within the walking distance of the NYC Ferry route, the importance of this transportation is more than obvious. The fee is on the affordable side too. You can have a ticket for $2.75, similar to the price of a ride on the subway. The schedule of the rides are published on the website. One of the best ways to make the ferry commute easy is by downloading the app. NYC Ferry is available as an application on App Store and Google Play. The app can be downloaded free of charge, and riders can buy their tickets in just a few minutes. NYC Ferry makes two types of tickets available for the users: a single ride and a pass for 30 days. There are ticket options for bikes as well if you are bringing any on board. The transfers within the ferry system are free and are valid for a maximum of 90 minutes once the one-way trip is started. Free transfers are not available for round-trip journeys.

A one-way adult ticket costs $2.75, and a one-way ticket for the bike is available for $1. If you are looking for a one-way adult pass with the bike, you will have to shell out $3.75. A 30-day adult pass is available for $121, and the same goes up to $141 if you are including a bike as well. You have three ways to book a ticket. You can download the app to redeem the ticket, or go to the ticket vending machine at the ferry landings, or else purchase one from the website. Children under the height of 44 inches can only take the ride if they are accompanied by an adult. Persons with disabilities and senior citizens can seek reduced fares after they submit the relevant forms on the landing stations. The applications are available on the website for download. You can contact the support at the landing stations or dial the helpline for assistance on tickets, cancellation, refund, passes, lost items or others.
