About MTR
The subway network in Hong Kong is managed by the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) that began operations in the year 1910. MTR manages the bus, heavy rail, light rail and inter-city railway services. The railway operator serves over 5.5 million passengers on a weekday. MTR operates over 22 light and heavy rail lines. The railway services can be used to even connect from Hong Kong to Guangdong province, Beijing, Foshan and Shanghai. The entire MTR system has 87 stations and 68 Light Rail stops. The MTR also operates the Airport Express that provides fastest connections to Hong Kong International Airport and AsiaWorld-Expo. Complimentary services for passengers include free porter service, shuttle bus service, parking, free MTR connections and in-train Wi-Fi service.
As for the network, it consists of Kwun Tong Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Island Line, Tseung Kwan O Line, Tung Chung Line, Airport Express, Disneyland Resort Line, East Rail Line, West Rail Line and Ma On Shan Line. Visit the MTR website to plan your trip, see schedule, route maps and fares. You can also download the MTR smartphone app to see route map, estimated journey time and much more.
As for fares, you have regular single journey tickets (First Class compartments available on some lines), Day Pass, Monthly Pass and MTR City Saver (valid for up to 30 days). MTR City Saver has a discounted fare and can only be used by one passenger. Get the electronic card Octopus to load tickets and conveniently travel across MTR, Airport Express, Light Rail, buses and ferries. Tickets can be purchased at stations, vending machines or at retail stores.
Commuters can now access free Wi-Fi at every MTR station. If you are a frequent traveller, register for the MTR Club to earn and redeem points. Points can be used for free rides. Members also get access to exclusive offers and discounts. For more information or queries on tickets, refund/cancellation, stations, parking, lost and found items, or others, reach the MTR Hong Kong customer service.
The 614 and 507 light rail trains are always packed with passengers. Other trains are more often a double car, while these trains seldom run with two cars.
We are still in a pandemic. Please do better!
I have been using MTR on a monthly pass between Tung Chung to HK (central). Recently there have been a lot of cancellations some unexpected. Therefore alternative transportation (mainly bus) for the same journey paid by myself to which incurred extract cost on top of MTR monthly pass. Although I can appreciate the cancellation is due to the current unrest situation but that is no fault of my own and MTR should not have continued to take a full monthly fee but to provide a partial service. I already paid out extra $210.00 on top of the $635.00 ( monthly pass) in Oct 19 and now into Nov 19 again out of pocket already??
I would appreciate some respond or solution on my additional cost of my travel since Oct 19?
Ps I did receive two $50.00 vouchers when I paid for my Nov pass but that still not cover the extra cost of my bus fee.
