Aboutย Metropolitan Rapid Transit (MRT)
Metropolitan Rapid Transit (MRT) is Bangkok’s rapid transit system that was established in the year 2004. The metro system is operated by Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand. Currently, it operates two lines connecting to over 24 stations. MRT is said to annually transport close to 95 million passengers.
The two lines consist of Blue Line (Hua Lamphong – Bang Sue) and Purple Line (Khlong Bang Phai – Tao Poon). New lines are being proposed that could connect prime areas in the country. The upcoming lines are Orange Line, Pink Line, Yellow Line and Brown Line. Most metro stations offer parking facilities for commuters. Details on rates and timings are available on the website.
As for tickets, they can be purchased at manned stations or through ticket vending machines. You have tokens for single journeys and Smart Pass for multiple rides. You also have weekly and monthly passes offering massive savings. To see train schedule, timings, fares and others, visit the website. For more information or queries on tickets, payment, refund, cancellation, or others, reach the MRT Bangkok customer service.
