About Mexico City Metro
Mexico City Metro began operations in the year 1969. Locally known as Sistema de Transporte Colectivo (STC), the rapid transit system operates 12 lines connecting close to 200 stations. Transporting over 2 billion passengers each year, the metro system operates from 5am to 12 midnight. STC has a fleet of 390 trains.
As for the main terminals, Line 1 operates from Observatorio to Pantitlan E; Line 2 (Cuatro Caminos – Tasquena); Line 3 (Indios Verdes – Universidad); Line 4 (Martin Carrera – Santa Anita); Line 5 (Politecnico – Pantitlan S); Line 6 (El Rosario W to Martin Carrera); Line 7 (El Rosario N – Barranca del Muerto); Line 8 (Garibaldi – Constitucion de 1917 S); Line 9 (Tacubaya – Pantitlan E); Line A (Pantitlan W – La Paz E); Line B (Ciudad Azteca N – Buenavista S); and Line 12 (Mixcoac W – Tlahuac E).
The busiest stations are Pantitlan, Indios Verdes, Cuatro Caminos, Constitucion de 1917, Universidad, Taxquena, Observatorio, Insurgentes, Ciudad Azteca, Zocalo, Buenavista, Chapultepec, Zaragoza, Tacubaya, Chilpancingo, Pantitlan, Merced and Barranca del Muerto.
With regard to fares, commuters can purchase single journey STC Metro tickets or buy a reloadable metro card. The single journey tickets offer unlimited travel and transfer for the specified period. There are special fares for students and senior citizens. Tickets can be purchased at retail outlets, manned stations and through vending machines.
