About Medicaid in Florida
florida-medicaidThe popular health coverage program Medicaid is available for residents in Florida and is  managed by the the Agency for Health Care Administration. The program offers health care benefits to individuals and low-income families, including the disabled, orphaned and aged.

Medicaid recipients receive benefits such as ambulatory services, physician and non-physician practitioner services, hospital services, home health services, hearing services, nursing services, child health check-up, dental services, visual services, prescribed drug services, among others. Like other states, Florida too offers the Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC) program. Members receive all health care services from a managed care plan. The Long Term Care program however does not cover medications, doctor visits or other healthcare related services. The state wide program includes services such as adult companion care, adult day health care, behavioral management, homemaker, hospice, personal care, medication administration, respite care and therapies.

Counties where Medicaid plans are available include Alachua, Baker, Bay, Bradford, Charlotte, Citrus, Dixie, Duval, Escambia, Franklin, Glades, Gulf, Hamilton, Homes, Indian River, Jackson, Levy, Liberty, Putnam, Saint Johns, Sarasota, Taylor, Union, Wakulla, Walton and Washington.

Medicaid is offered to eligible individuals who are residents of the state. The applicant’s gross monthly income will also be checked for successful membership. The three basic groups eligible for Medicaid, if they meet specific income and asset requirements, include children and families, recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and seniors and people who have a disability. Those not eligible for Medicaid might still be able to apply for other health coverage programs. Reach the Department of Children and Families for more information.
