My adult son and his friend have cognitive disabilities. They are annual pass holders and until today have had good experiences at KD. They went to the peanuts Halloween activities today with a companion. My son has looked forward to going since last year when they had such a great time. This year the employees did not want to let them participate in any of the activities. Who does it hurt to let them paint a pumpkin? Or get a trick or treat bag? I realize it is ignorance, but why would a grown woman laugh at someone when they ask to participate? The companion did not think to get names, but there seems to be a lack of training of employees as to persons with disabilities. Not all disabilities are immediately visible!
We purchased season passes this year and we’ve visited the park a few times. There have been a few exceptions to the to the rule, but for the most part we have found the staff to be woefully lacking. The majority of the staff seems bored and irritated to help us, which is unfortunate because we can’t even get on a ride without help. It’s a bit deflating to get on a ride and have the ride operators act irritated that they have to check the buckle for safety. We find ourselves standing in line, watching the the ride operators and the restaurant employees sauntering through their job at the pace of someone vacationing on the beach with nothing to do, not moving even remotely quickly to accomplish their tasks. Getting our dinner at the Box Diner was painfully slow and made all the more painful to see the employees moving slowly, getting orders incorrect and everyone generally acting as though there wasn’t a care in the world and the line wasn’t out the door. We chose to eat in the park because it was supposedly more convenient and faster than returning to our car for food. For the amount of time we stood in line while the employees moved too slowly and had too little help out front with too much help in the back, we could have left the park, eaten a meal at a fraction of the cost and then been back in the park and in line for another ride. On multiple occasions we’ve asked employees questions and were amazed that they seemed to be so clueless about how to execute their responsibilities and provide any assistance. We’ve loved riding the rides and being in the park, but it would go a a long way to make the experience even more enjoyable if the lines weren’t so long because the employees seem to have forgotten that they’re on the clock.
