I went to Coles today….the cookbooks are gone, history, philosophy gone etc. to be replaced by books for children and teens.
I have been a customer of chapters for many, many years. Over the last several years I have found that you are getting away from books and moving toward merchandise to the point that many books are no longer available at chapters, either online or in the store. Yesterday my local store told me the kiosks will be removed as of today. One of the things I have always enjoyed is doing research at home, going into the store and taking a look at the books and using the kiosk to help me physically find books. I know that I can ask a clerk but when I have a list of 15 or so I would rather just do it myself. Itโs almost meditative for me. What a shame because when I go to a bookstore Iโm looking for books not clothing or housewares. Perhaps I need to start buying from somewhere else like Amazon.
Why has chapters indigo stopped allowing customers to order magazines and books? I have been a long time customer of your company but your recent decisions to NOT allow me to obtain the material I enjoy reading is probably going to cause to seek an alternative source. As an example I frequently read such magazines as New Scientist, Skeptic, and several photography magazines. My local store would call and say they were ready for pickup. Recently I stopped receiving any calls and when I inquired why I was told that Head Office prohibits stores ordering for their customers and Head Office only can decide what a store may receive. On a positive note the staff in my local store are wonderful. It is a shame that their best efforts are undermined by some corporates who has no knowledge of, what was that…oh yes CUSTOMER SERVICE.
While in your store, I could not fail to notice an aggressive political campaign that your store is now running. Merchandise with signs saying that mother is a verb and not a noun, is misogynist. There is a difference between supporting trans rights and attacking women that your campaign fails to acknowledge. All of the staff also have their identifying genders on their name tags, which serves no business purpose, but serves a political one. Myself and my family, who are avid readers, will no longer support your business. I want to buy books, not be fed your political agenda.
I received my order today and I noticed that you no longer use Canada Post for deliveries (they were always great!) but instead are using Apple Express. I have doorbell video footage of my parcel being thrown onto my doorstep! Luckily there was nothing breakable in my order, but thought you might like to know just how careless this delivery service is. Doesnโt make Indigo look good.
Each time I have attempted to shop at your stores the amount of attention received from your staff demonstrates to me that they could benefit from anti-racist training. I use to ignore the ignorance and just get what I wanted and leave but my grandchildren, daughter, and other members of my family have shared similar experiences and it seems like as Black people we will never be able to enjoy a shopping experience in your stores without being treated as potential thieves. As a PhD student, and avid book lover I passed on my passion for books to my family and can tell you that your store is now one I avoid.
I tried to order a book from you over the weekend, online since stores were closed until today.
I cannot recall ever dealing with a website with so many glitches in it: being told no pickup is possible after having selected deliver to store for pickup, getting password invalid while trying to place the order as a guest, being directed to French pages when I tried to make a new account, being returned to the place an order page with cart emptied when I tried to select PayPal payment, and several more that I’ve forgotten.I finally ended up with an email saying my order is successful and will be delivered to my home address – courier unspecified.
Why does your site offer the illusion that one can order and receive, when in fact thereโs nothing? Is there no plan to do curb side or just ship out orders? When it says shipping btwn May and Oct, hardly a ringing endorsement.
Thx.
