Can anyone give me an update on current turnaround times from guest services at holland america. We were taken off a tour over 10 weeks ago and were meant to get a credit or refund within 2 weeks. I have emailed 2 follow up emails (after my initial contact) but to date have received no response (not even an auto reply telling me my business is important to them). A reference number at least would have been a start.
Been on many cruises, most of those with HA. This has been the worse cruise ever, and its day 2. We stay in the aft/stern rooms and love it. But….the horrendous vibrations have forced use to change rooms, to a smaller one! Not the normal movement of the ship but a hard quick vibration, never experienced before. Guest services have provided the usual excuses and gave us no option but to move to the smaller room. That and the poor or lack of service will make us rethink our future cruises with HR. Plenty of fish in the sea!
So disappointing to keep getting these great private sale deals but then when you want to book a cruise there are no rooms left or only one inside the bowels of the ship. Pretty much bordering on false advertising in my opinion.
Id like to know why ive been charged US$120 post cruise on top of my on board account. It has appeared as a separate charge on my credit card. No one from Holland America mentioned anything about this at any time nor did we authorise the charge. We are not the only people to have been charged this amount. There is no contact us link that actually works on the head office website, so this is the only way I can find to contact HAL. Sailing was on Zuiderdam, 13-30 July 2019.

We had exactly the same issue. I have written three emails to Guest Services without the decency of even an acknowledgement let alone a response. Absolutely pathetic customer service
I planned a land/cruise for myself, my husband, my sister and her husband on the Noordam July 11-21, 2019. Cruise was enjoyable for the most part; land portion was mostly spent in a bus being transported between three destinations-will not do that again. On July 21st we were scheduled for disembarkment via motorcoach from Vancouver dock to SEATAC-Seatte- a 3 hour trip that turned into 6 hours due to travel delays. Needless to say, we missed our flights at SEATAC-had to pay for overnight lodging and travel the next day via Southwest with long delays in Las Vegas on our way to our homes in Texas and Arizona. This was a celebration trip for my sister and brother-in-law to celebrate their 50th anniversary and SHOULD NOT HAVE ENDED THIS WAY!! Holland America did not want to hear my complaint and offered no compensation. Luckily I had paid for Travel Insurance that I will now have to file a claim for extra expenses for all four of us. However, they will not reimburse my brother-in-law for his lost wages on Monday. We have been long Holland America travelers, BUT NO MORE!! We are planning two cruises in the near future-looking at other options!! POOR SERVICE!!
I went on the Holland America cruise on 3/05/19 to 3/26/19 on the Veendam from Rio de Janeiro Brazil to Fort Lauderdale. I was happy to finally find a cruise where I wanted go and to try Holland America lines. I have traveled many places around the world on several cruise lines and had heard Holland was very good. However, I was very disappointed.
To start with we had purchased transfers from the airport to the ship. We got picked up and bussed to the port where we were told to get our bags and take them across the street and railroad tracks and wait in line to check our bags before getting on the ship. We said we could not take all our bags, so they finally found a cart with a man to take them for us (isn’t that part of the transfer?). we then stood in the midday heat in Rio for TWO HOURS. No water, restrooms, or anything!
We finally got on the ship and hoped all would be great. Not to be.
Our toilet quit working.
Twice part of our cabin lights went out.
Two of the four elevators on our end of the ship only starred working on the last couple of days.
The tv went black and had to be replaced. Then two days later it would not turn on. The sound on both were very bad which made it hard to understand what was being said.
Since there was pretty much nothing on tv I went down and got a dvd (you could only get one at a time). The titles were just listed, no information at all. Got into bed and settled in – the movie was 1927, black and white, silent. Each day I tried a new – some did not work at all and some were not too bad and some were really old and bad.
There was not a lot to do on the ship while we were at sea. Bridge or Mahjong (I don’t play either) jigsaw puzzles (most missing pieces) I did a lot of those. A not to great movie every afternoon. Evenings had stage entertainment (piano player is not my thing). Swim, eat, read. There were so many places on the ship that I never seen anyone that could have been used for more “fun stuff” to do.
Internet was way too expensive so forget the internet.
The food was cooked with so much strange stuff I had never heard of and was often repeated. Just some regular simple food would have been nice. I ate a lot of hamburgers, nachos, and pizza. The salads, fruit, and desserts were good (I ate a lot of them too)
I really feel that $3 for a small bottle of water to take to the tours was a bit much as was the 16% charge on everything purchased. I purchased a soda card, but when I wanted the can and not just a glass of ice with a little soda in it, I had to fight to get it.
MANY of the people on board were disappointed and felt the same way. They had traveled with Holland before and said this was not the usual for them. I am sorry that my first (and probably last) Holland voyage was not what I expected.
However, there was some good. The hotel manager and many other workers -our cabin person, service desk – Sunshine, Peter and Grace especially, were great.
The restrooms, eating areas, and whole ship was kept very clean.
In October/November 2018 my wife and I plus 2 other couples booked a cruise with Holland America (W962). One of the main reasons for booking this cruise was that the cruise visited Busan,SouthKorea and Nagasaki, Japan. We received any email last week to inform us that due the Chinese government regulation the cruise itinerary had been changed. I find it amazing that a cruise company of your standing did not ensure that all Chinese government regulation had been complied with before advertising this cruise. We are now in a position that we can not change/cancel this cruise as we have already booked and paid for our airfares and accommodation. To say that we are externally disappointed is an understatement. An acknowledge of this email would be appreciated.
Dear Sir or madam.
Please allow me to bring undernoted message to your attention.
The relationship between the Mariner status levels is as far as I can judge completely out of proportion.
Any cruise passenger automatically will receive the “One Star” status after just 1 single cruise completed , no matter the duration of the cruise . ( mostly 7 to 12 days ).
To get the “Two Star” status , the passenger must have completed 30 cruise days which to my opinion sounds reasonable.
For getting the “Three star” status , one have to complete 75 cruise days , which are 2.5 times more than the previus Two Star level.
It would be more acceptable when 60 to 65 completed cruise days were needed to reach that 3* level .
For getting the “Four Star” status the Mariner Society demands the ridiculous number of 200 cruise day credits !
Again more than 2.5 times more cruise days needed for the three Star status !!
[ Also in this case 130 up to 140 cruise days credit would be more acceptable ]
The “Five Star” status only is available for the privileged millionairs………………………..
July 26 – 2018 , my wife and I will celebrate our 50th wedding aniversary. Because of this “mile stone” we have invited our (2) children with spouse and our (3) grandchildren to join us for a 13 day cruise on the Oosterdam sailing the East Mediterranian sea ,sail date Citavechia ( Rome ) August 16-2018.
We ( my wife and I ) are 3 Star Mariners with 141 cruise day credits. After completion of our August cruise we will have 154 cruise day credits , also still not enough by than to reach the 4 star Mariner level.
This means that , even with my phycial handicap , I ( 78 ) have to line up for the boarding procedure.
An other personal “problem” will be the expected disallowance of my children and grand children for the Mariner events for which my wife and I will be invited during our jubilee cruise such as the Mariner brunch and Mariners meeting the ships staff party…
Sincerely Yours.
Charles van Dijck.
