The Federal Office of Police (fedpol) is the national police agency in Switzerland. Law enforcement coordination locally is provided by Cantonal police commanders. Fedpol is responsible to the Federal Department of Justice and Police. The agency coordinates international operations and conducts investigations with the support of cantonal police. It directs national and international police cooperation, also working closely with Europol, Interpol and the UN. Additionally, Fedpol ensures the safety of people, coordinates police response to terrorism, criminal activities or other emergency. Fedpol also protects private and public property. The largest civil security agency in Switzerland is called the Border Guard Corps. It is responsible for the security of border areas and also checks customs, police and migration work.
