About Federal Police
The Federal Police in Mexico is the main law enforcement agency that was formed in 1928. Locally called Policia Federal, the agency was previously known as 1st Military Police Brigade, Federal Highway Police and Fiscal Police. Policia Federal is responsible to the Secretariat of the Interior. Employing more than 400,000, the agency operates from its headquarters at Mexico City.

There are seven divisions within the Federal Police. Two of the divisions – Federal Forces Division and Gendarmerie Division – are military in nature. Municipalities have their own municipal police forces called Policia Municipal. Main objectives of the police force remains to prevent and combat crime; fight corruption; strengthen intelligence activities; promote peace; promote citizen participation; among others. The organisation is headed by the Commissioner General (Comisionado General).

The divisions within the Policia Federal is headed by the Secretaria General. The divisions consist of Division Antidrogas, Division Cientifica, Division de Fuerzas Federales, Division de Inteligencia, Division de Investigacion, Division de Seguridad Regional and Division de Gendarmeria Nacional. As for the ranks within the organisation, you have Policeman/woman, Corporal, Sergeant, Sub-officer, Officer, Sub-inspector, Inspector, Chief Inspector, Commissary, Chief Commissary and Commissary General.
