About Dolmabahce Palace
Dolmabahce Palace is a popular tourist attraction in Turkey that has been home to several Ottoman sultans in the past. It was constructed in 1856 and is extensively decorated with gold and crystal. It also boasts of a large collection of Baccarat crystal chandeliers. The palace served as the residence of six sultans. Importantly, it also served as the presidential residence of the first President of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. It was converted into a museum after the death of Ataturk.
The largest palace in Turkey, spread across 11 acres, Dolmabahce boasts of 285 rooms and 44 halls. Egyptian alabasters, Marmara marbles, among others are used for decoration. Dolmabahce Palace is open from 9am to 4pm. The museum extends till 5pm. Tickets for entry cost 30 TL. Dolmabahce Palace is closed on Mondays and Thursdays. As for reaching the spot, you can catch a taxi from Sultanahmet or a tram, in addition to buses.
