About Nationality, Passports & Residence Affairs
All immigration and visa related matters in Bahrain are administered by the Ministry of Interior’s Nationality, Passports & Residence Affairs (NPRA) department. Established in the year 1928, the government agency has been critical in developing rules and regulations, besides enacting the laws for passports, immigration and naturalization. The department, headed by the Under Secretary, currently has service centers in Exhibitions Road, Manama; Isa Town; Salman Port; and Muharraq. The address and contact details are available on the official website here.

You can visit any of the NPRA branches for applying passport or reporting lost or damaged passport. As for applying a new passport, Bahrain citizens need to carry the service request form, birth certificate, original ID and photographs. The form can be downloaded on the website. A fee will be collected when submitting an application. Travel permits are issued to children of citizens born outside the Kingdom and for those who have lost their passports in a foreign nation.

As for visas, currently citizens of Kuwat, Oman, Saudi Arabia and UAE can visit with their national ID cards. Citizens of some countries also can obtain the visa on arrival (evisa) facility for up to 1 month. The countries include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, US and Venezuela. Those from India, Pakistan, Egypt and some other countries can get an evisa valid for 14 days. There is an ‘eligibility’ tool available on the website to check if you need a visa.

Application for evisas meanwhile can be done on the official portal here. Most visas for Bahrain must be sponsored. You will also need to specify the reason for visit, whether it is tourism, business, study, conference, or work. There are different visa types suiting the purpose. Multiple entry visas exist for certain nationality groups. Visa fee can be paid online using credit or debit card. Once an application has been submitted, you can check the status using the reference number on the website. For more information or queries on passport applications, visa status, evisas, payment, refund, or others, reach the Bahrain immigration support.
