About AirTrain JFK
AirTrainย is a monorail that connects travellers to airport as well as subway lines in New York. Opened in the year 2003, AirTrain is owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The 3 line elevated transportation connects to/from Kennedy International Airport, in addition to MTA New York City Transit subways and buses and the Long Island Rail Road. Travel from airline terminals to Jamaica and Howard Beach Station takes about 10 minutes. The mass transit to major destinations in New York and New Jersey is available 24 hours a day. The service is free for commuters between airline terminals. As for Newark, AirTrain allows travellers to commute to and from NJ Transit, PATH and Amtrak. Visit the website to see the route map, get fare information and much more.
To access AirTrain JFK at the Jamaica and Howard Beach stations there is a $5 per person fee. Commuters can purchase MetroCards that can be used on AirTrain as well as NYC Transit subways. MetroCards can be purchased at ticket vending machines using credit/debit cards. Eating, smoking and drinking is not permitted in the AirTrain system. Commuters can carry their baggages, luggage carts and even strollers. There are also wheelchair locations inside vehicles for disabled travellers. For more information or queries on tickets, stops, MetroCards, parking, lost and found items, or others, reach the AirTrain JFK customer service.
Airtrain is a joke and a rip-off. They always have a track closed, but at least it usually functions. Then you have to pay $8 for the 5 minute ride. No wait, $9, because it’s a dollar to get the metro card that almost nobody uses anymore. Total ripoff, overpriced and they are actually charging $9 to a high percentage of riders. Then you get a $5 LIRR train all the way to Grand Central. The Port Authority is obviously too inept to get OMNY installed and is several years behind schedule. They can just barely do the airport, give airtrain to MTA to run.
Iโm frustrated. On Nov 30th I purchased the 30 day 10 rides for $25. Today was the first time using it Dec 3rd and when I used it the machine said I have one ride left. Iโm airline crew and this is really annoying and not the first time I got screwed with Airtrain and MTA. I utilize and pay for rides to and from the airport all the time. The principle alone has me frustrated, before the amount.
AirTrain is unreliable and a nightmare for visitors. If it is running there is no consistant schedule. During rush hour the train is running every 10 minutes to the terminal. Every 10 minutes? There is barely standing room only because of this interval it leaves many people waiting to squeeze unto the train. For an international airport in NY that brags to be the greatest city in the wotld, all signs are in one language only, including the confusing announvements. Confusing because it lacks relevant information. Foreigners cannot navigate this airport. But when I travel internationally fortunately the signs at these “lesser” (allegedly) airports provide signs in and announcements in a number of other languages. It is shameful in comparison to elsewhere as a New Yorker.
I just got on an AirTrain to JFK at Jamaicaโฆby the skin of my teeth. Why canโt I use ApplePay to ride? And NONE of the kiosks were taking credit cards?? By sheer luck I had a $20 on me and I was early enough to wait out the 15 person-deep lines to refill my metrocard. Others were directed by staff to a random lady to buy prepaid metro cards with a credit cardโฆwho knows what kind of markup they were slapping on there. I saw the lines were the same for the people arriving. We want tourists to come and stay and then visit again AND encourage everyone to use public transportโฆdonโt slap us across the face in the way in AND the way out.
Connection between airport terminals and public transportation should be free. Itโs free anywhere else in the world. Charging $5 was already too much. Now itโs been increased to $8. Itโs outrageous. Especially, when we New Yorkers already pay so much in taxes.
Just took air train from terminal 8 to Jamaica station. Total absolute chaos at the exit. Insufficient machines, credit card dips not working thirty people deep lines. Shame on you for greeting people to this great city this way.
Make air train compatible with apple/Google pay. Make sure enough people are there to help.
Only thing signed was your price increase. Terrible.
Why is the Airtrain so dirty. Dirty floors and the seats are full of dirt between the seats. I rode the train at 6 am how is this possible. Also a homeless man was sleeping on the train and no mask. How can this be happening in this pandemic when we are risking our lives using the AIRTRAIN.
Why is there no mask enforcement in the airtrain?
This is ridiculous. I feel like I’m being exposed to a deadly virus and right now there is a mentally ill person on the way to the airport dancing and singing to himself. How can you let this happen?
I am astonished right now and fearful.
