About Acadia National Park
Acadia National Park is a US recreation area that is situated in Bar Harbor, Maine. Established in the year 1916, the national park is spread across 49,000 acres and is visited by more than 3.5 million visitors each year. The park, governed by the National Park Service, boasts of rich cultural heritage and also is frequented for the habitats with high biodiversity. Known as the Crown Jewel of the North Atlantic Coast, the Acadia National Park contains seven peaks above 1,000 feet, besides 158 miles of hiking trails.
Visitors can opt for full ranger programs like Acadia’s Birds, Botany Walk or Hawk Katch, or enjoy outdoor activities like bicycling, birdwatching, ice fishing, winter hiking, water drives, winter camping, boating, climbing, hiking or swimming. Parking is open 24 hours. There are ADA-designated spaces for cars and vans. Weekly passes are $30 per vehicle. You can purchase passes at information centers throughout the park. As for lodging, the park has four campgrounds – Blackwoods Campground, Seawall Campground, Schoodic Woods Campground and Duck Harbor Campground on Isle au Haut.
Note that permits are required for commercial photography/filming or commercial tours and activities. Passes can be purchased at Hulls Cove Visitor Center, Sand Beach Entrance Station, Thompson Island Information Center, Bar Harbor Village Green, Blackwoods Campground, Schoodic Woods Campground and Seawall Campground. You can also buy Acadia annual or weekly pass online. Acadia Annual Pass holders can gain access to the national park for 12 months. Acadia Park is open 24 hours, throughout the year. The visitor centers have different operating times. You can see the opening hours and months of Hulls Cove Visitor Center, Thompson Island Information Center, Village Green Information Center, Islesford Historial Museum, Sieur de Monts Nature Center, Rockfeller Welcome Center and Schoodic Woods Campground on the website. There is separate entrance fee for individuals and vehicles. If you have lost something at the park, you can reach the lost and found counter or submit a report online. The website is also very useful for gathering information on campgrounds, places to go, activities, transportation, see pictures/videos, get a virtual tour, or read the history of the park.
