About Aadhaar Card
Aadhaar is a unique identification card that can be procured by citizens in India. The 12-digit unique identification number is issued by the government’s Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The data of individuals is stored in the government’s database via biometric card. Apparently, Aadhaar is said to be the world’s largest biometric ID system with more than 1.20 billion registered members. With the government making Aadhaar number/card mandatory for availing certain services and benefits, a majority of the population have already registered on the database. The document can be considered as a proof of residence.

Any individual who is a resident of India can apply for Aadhaar. Application can be submitted online or at authorized outlets. The enrollment will require name, date of birth, age, address, mobile number, recent photograph, ten fingerprints and eye scan. UDAI will accept common proofs of identity and address such as driving license, ration card, PAN card, election card and passport. You can visit the UIDAI website for complete list of documents or locations of enrollment agencies. After submission, residents are provided with an Aadhaar Card or electronic copy of Aadhaar. It could take from 60 to 90 days. Note that Aadhaar enrollment is free of cost.

Any modifications to existing Aadhaar can be done online or through any nearest enrollment centers. The Self Service Update Portal on UIDAI can only be done by those who have registered on the platform using their mobile number. If you have already completed the enrollment, you can check Aadhaar status as well as download your Aadhaar on the website. Additionally, you can verify Aadhaar number, verify email/mobile, lock/unlock biometrics or check bank account linking status on the website. For more information or queries on enrollment, Aadhaar status, correction, or others, reach the Aadhaar support.
