Cannes is most commonly associated with the film festival and film stars, but the festival lasts no more than a week or two. Businesses that are more critical to Cannes are barely mentioned. Do you know about L’Affaire des Doubles Rideaux at 21 Rue Hoche, for instance? The choice of curtains is almost limitless there! Are you familiar with Arc en Ciel Deco, or any of the enchanting interior shops on the same street? It has incredible markets, delicatessens, and brasseries for foodies, and plenty of fashion stores for the fashionistas!
Viva Le Shop! – the Cannes Shopping Festival!
There is never a dull moment when visiting France, regardless of the reason. It is thus one of the most popular times to travel to France during the Cannes Shopping Festival. As the festival is usually held alongside the more famous film festival, you can stroll down the promenade of la Croisette, card in hand, and a huge smile on your face, while your film-loving friends are going to swoon over the best movie premieres. The fashion industry in France boasts some of the biggest brands in the world. Chic, too, is a French word! Although you may do pretty well at the Cannes Shopping Festival, we caution you that it will go through your budget pretty fast. There is no better place in the area to go shopping than Galerie du Gray d’Albion, which is the largest shopping center. To get a taste of something a little milder and with a wider range, try Cannes La Bocca.
Don’t miss these addresses in Cannes!
Known for its plethora of shops and wide pavements, rue d’Antibes is a popular spot for international brands. Nevertheless, there are some locals who succeed here too, like the Taizo perfumery that continues to experiment with new scents, Louis Julian, born in 1852, who makes luxury watches, Jacques Loup, the shoemaker for Cannes’ elite, Trabaud, a companion to men in style, Atelier Jean-Luc Pelé, the foodie kingdom, and L’Été Indien, a shop with small designers selling bags and jewelry.
Stay at these beautiful hotels!
Star-gazers will recognize these hotels – they usually house Nicole Kidman’s, Scarlett Johansson, and Jude Law – and La Croisette, the fashionable shopping street that connects the hotels with the beach, but Cannes has so much more to offer.
To begin with, there is Le Suquet, a hilltop town named after the hill it was built upon. You’ll find winding streets, pink brick buildings with fountains, and many little restaurants – the Auberge de Provence is one where you can enjoy a six-course gourmet lunch and be amused by photos of the stars who have eaten there and dined there.
When to plan
Also known as Palais des Festival, the shopping festival is held in the months of March to April and September to October. The 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will happen from May 17 to 28 in 2022. The resort town Cannes is well connected by train, bus and cab. The Nice Airport, Cannes Mandelieu Airport and Marseille Provence Airport offers easy connectivity for fliers.
