Finding the ideal mobile service operator that can meet your specific requirements will always prove to be a difficult proposition. Every customer has his or her own set of expectations that they want fulfilled. Some people swear by value, whereas others prefer reliability. Whatever might be your preference, if you feel that your current service provider is not able to fulfil your needs, then it does not hurt to look at greener pastures.

Virgin Mobile is a growing Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) in Canada, offering both prepaid and postpaid wireless services such as voice, messaging, and internet. Being a wholly owned subsidiary of Bell Mobility, Virgin Mobile’s Canadian division was founded in 2005 as a joint venture between Virgin Group and Bell Mobility. The company primarily aimed to attract a younger demographic with its affordable plan offerings.

Since Virgin Mobile’s official unveiling, the venture has been relatively successful for Bell. The company has consistently been ranked among the top three wireless network carriers in Canada and has also won numerous awards for its innovative marketing campaigns and customer service. In recent years, Virgin Mobile has also expanded its product offerings to include home internet and TV services. For the uninitiated, Virgin Mobile Canada is now officially known Virgin Plus.

Despite being such a raving success, Virgin Plus has been routinely criticised for its slow data speeds and billing errors. So, if you are one of the many unsatisfied customers who want to experience better services for the money you are currently paying, then it is crucial that you take the correct step forward and thereby enhance your overall user experience. That is why we have created a step-by-step guide that you can follow religiously to cancel your Virgin Plus number today.

Know Virgin Plus’ Cancellation Terms

According to Virgin Plus, users are free to cancel their service anytime they want. However, the rules and regulations will differ based on the type of plan you are using. If you are using a monthly plan that is tied to a 2-year agreement, 3-year agreement, or Virgin Plus SuperTab, then cancelling your service will attract an early exit charge. The early exit charge will be based either on your remaining “Agreement Credit” balance at the time of cancellation or the lesser of $50 or 10 per cent of your monthly plan fee for the remainder of your commitment period (if you did not receive an “Agreement Credit”). However, it should be known that if you have no “Agreement Credit” outstanding and you have no set commitment period, then you will not be charged an early exit charge.

On the other hand, if you are using a prepaid account, you can cancel your services by simply stopping using your Virgin SIM card. If your prepaid funds expire and you do not top up your number for 90 days, then your account will be completely disconnected. Additionally, when cancelling your prepaid account, do not forget to remove your credit card or pre-authorised debit registrations associated with your account.

Lastly, if you have a credit balance on your Virgin Plus account that equals $10 and is under $500 on your final bill, then the company will issue a cheque (in the form of a refund) to your preferred mailing address within 90 days of the issuance of the final bill.

Steps to Cancel Your Virgin Plus Number

From the above-mentioned cancellation policy, it is evident that cancelling your Virgin Mobile number is not that difficult. To proceed further, follow the steps outlined below.

  1. Start the cancellation process by calling Virgin Plus’ customer care at 1-888-999-2321. You can also dial 611 from your Virgin Plus phone. Phone lines are open from 9 AM to 9 PM from Monday to Saturday, and 10 AM to 7 PM on Sunday.
  2. Navigate through the IVR (Interactive Voice Response) options and proceed to speak to a customer service executive.
  3. Once a customer care agent connects to your call, provide your Virgin Plus username or 10-digit number, and then ask for cancellation.
  4. The customer care representative will then retrieve your account information and ask for user verification, such as your name, residential address, registered email ID, and the type of plan you are using.
  5. Once verification is complete, the customer care agent will ask you the reason for your cancellation. Proceed to explain your grievances in detail, and do not forget to state the date on which you want your cancellation to be effective.
  6. After that, the customer care representative will register a cancellation request on your account. Keep in mind that if you cancel your service before the end of your minimum term or commitment period, you will have to pay an early exit charge.
  7. Finally, once your cancellation request is successfully registered, you will receive confirmation messages at your email address and phone number. Additionally, you will also receive a follow-up message stating any due amount that you have to pay or an account credit balance that you will be entitled to (as a refund).
