About Shalimar Gardens
Shalimar Gardens is a popular tourist destination located across Baghbanpura along the Grand Trunk Road, Lahore. The persian style garden was constructed in the year 1641 by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. The garden complex was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981. There are numerous buildings within the complex for a variety of purposes. They include Sawan Bhadon pavilions, Khwabgah, Hammam, Baradari and Diwan-e-Khas-o-Aam. Located near Madina Mosque and Lahore Fort, the best time to visit the garden is during winters and spring.
The garden is apparently spread out in three elevated levels. They consist of Hayat Bakhsh, Faiz Baksh and Farah Baksh. Interestingly, there are more than 400 fountains constructed inside beautiful marble pools. Nature lovers also can enjoy the garden plantations, which even includes apple, mango, almond and cherry.
