About Kakadu National Park
Kakadu National Park is said to be the largest national park in Australia and was established in the year 1981. Managed by the Parks Australia, the place is located in the Northern Territory of Australia. The park is spread across 20,000 sq kms and has been home to Aboriginal people for more than 50,000 years. Kakadu National Park has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Kakadu Park is home to around 280 different types of birds and more than 2,000 types of plants, including Pandanus, Speargrass, Kapok bush and Darwin woolybutt. Besides plants and birds, Kakadu is also popular for the wide array of animals. In fact it has more than 10,000 crocodiles in Kakadu, many that grow up to six metres. You will also find plenty of flatback turtles.

Visitors will be marvelled at the dense savanna woodlands, floodplains, mangroves, tidal mudflats and monsoon forests. One of the attractions of Kakadu is the rock art which sheds light on the life of aboriginals. There are paintings up to 20,000 years old. The two main art galleries are at Ubirr and Nourlangie. For those who enjoy walking, there are several guided tours across the East Alligator region, South Alligator region, Jabiru region, Nourlangie region, Yellow Water region and the Jim Jim and Twin Falls region. You can also go fishing, boating or crocodile spotting.

Kakadu is open 365 days of the year. For tickets and information you can visit the Bowali Visitor Centre that is open 8am to 5pm. The Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre is open 9am to 5pm as well. All visitors are required to carry a pass. Adult tickets cost $40 (check on website), while for children it is much cheaper. You can also look for Family Pass for savings.
