About Abraj Al-Bait
Abraj Al-Bait is a popular landmark located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The complex includes a central hotel tower called the Makkah Royal Clock Tower. Just a short distance from Masjid Al Haram, the clock tower is said to be among the top five tallest in the world at height of 1,972 feet. Constructed in just six years, thousands of tourists who visit Mecca make it a point to visit the complex, which also houses hotels, malls, and restaurants.
The Abraj Al-Bait was developed by the Saudi Binladin Group. Construction started in the year 2006 and costed about $15 billion. Spread across 310,638 m2, the clock tower boasts of about 120 floors. There are 96 lifts and elevators for easy accessibility. One of the highlights of the clock tower is the clock dial that is 43 mtrs in size and weighs 21 tons. The clock tower is illuminated in the night by about 2 million LED lights. The tower further houses the highest observation deck at 558 mts.
