Formerly known as the Lindbergh Airport, the San Diego International Airport primarily serves the Greater San Diego region. Established in 1928, the airport is situated around 3 miles from Downtown San Diego and has one of the busiest single runways in the world. As a result, the San Diego International Airport serves more than 25 million passengers each year while also being the primary focus airport for Alaska Airlines.
The San Diego International Airport covers a total of 663 acres of space and has two main terminals, namely Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The Terminal 1 has two concourses, named East and West, along with 19 gates. On the other hand, Terminal 2 has two concourses named East and West, with 32 gates and 3 lounges.
What are the Available Parking Options
San Diego International Airport offers provisions for both short-term and long-term parking at both terminals. Unfortunately, due to the construction of the new T1 Terminal, all operations within Terminal 1 (except Curbside Valet) are temporarily closed till Fall 2024. Therefore, passengers can only expect to book parking slots at Terminal 2.
For starters, if you are looking for an easy parking option that includes covered parking along with electric vehicle charging facilities, then Terminal 2 Parking Plaza should be the ideal choice. Short-term parking involves a maximum of three hours, while long-term parking allows you to park your vehicle overnight. Additionally, passengers are also provided with facilities such as 16 electric vehicle charging points, a 10-minute grace period when exiting and automated cashier-less payments.
However, if you want convenience, then Curbside Valet service is offered at both Terminals 1 and 2. San Diego International Airport also offers Cell Phone Lots, so that you can easily pick up or drop off your loved ones at the airport. There are a total of 70 parking spaces along with portable restroom facilities, while the waiting period is a maximum of 60 minutes. Do note that when you are parking at the Cell Phone Lot, your vehicle must be switched off and attended to at all times.
