About York Minster
York Minster is a popular medieval church located in York, northern England. One of the largest cathedrals in Europe, it is a fine example of English Gothic architecture. Officially known as Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of St Peter in York, the first Christian church on the site has been dated to 627. The present structure is said to have been built between 1220 and 1472. The stained glass still seen in York Minster dates back to the 12th century. York Minster has survived several invasions, fire, and more. The Minster is 160 metres long and 76 metres wide. The Lantern Tower is 71 metres high and weighs 16,000 tons.

When you are at York Minister, it will be an uplifting experience attending one of the church services. Prayer is offered through the day. The clergy singing here makes it one of the leading UK choirs. The Minster Choir has 12 men, including Songmen and Choral Scholars. Additionally, you have a library that also includes a large collection of manuscripts. The Artifacts Collection has treasures, silver, textiles, monuments, archaeology and furnishings. To get an incredible view of York, go atop the York Minster’s medieval central tower, the highest point in the whole of York.

As for entry, the place is open for services from 7am to 6.30pm. For sight seeing, the cathedral is open from 9am to 5pm. Visitors will need to purchase tickets for entry. The rates vary for adults and children. The tickets includes a free guided tour. If you need to know the ongoing events, browse the website for date and time.
