About Trenitalia
Trenitalia is a state-owned Italian train operator, established in the year 2000. Headquartered at Rome, Trenitalia employs more than 27,000. It’s network covers regions within Italy and also connects travellers to Austria, France, Germany and Switzerland. The regional and long distance trains offer optimum comfort and come equipped with all the basic features. The brand is part of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane. The high speed trains that are part of the Trenitalia network include the Alta Velocita, Frecciarossa, Frecciargento and Frecciabianca. They connect cities like Rome, Naples, Florence, Salerno, Turin, Milan and Bologna. The Frecciarossa is one of the fastest, with speeds touching up to 190 MPH. It has four classes – Executive, Business, Premium and Standard. The slower trains go by the name Regionale, Diretto and Espresso. While the faster trains connect metro cities, the regional trains connect smaller towns and suburbs. The names include Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Emilia Romagna, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardia, Marche, Molise, Piemonte, Prov di Bolzano, Prov di Trento, Puglia, Sardegna, Sicilia Toscana, Umbria and Veneto.

You can then book your one way ticket, return ticket or multiple trip tickets. If looking for savings, the Offers section on the homepage lists the journeys you can take on reduced price. Besides trains, you can also book a hotel and even rent a car on the website. Ticket prices vary for Base ticket, Economy ticket and Super Economy ticket. The Base ticket allows travellers to make changes to ticket free of charge before departure. It allows you to travel on all trains, except Executive service. Cancellation is also possible before departure.

Frecciarossa, Frecciargento and Frecciabianca trains come with restaurant service, giving you access to a wide array of dishes. Electronic tickets are permitted when travelling on any Trenitalia train. Tickets can be purchased using major credit cards on the web as well as through the official Trenitalia smartphone app. The Android or iOS app allows you to book tickets for individual journeys, buy regional tickets, view prices, access recent bookings and much more.
