About Tata Tea Museum
Tata Tea Museum is a major tourist attraction in Kerala’s beautiful hill station Munnar. Also known as Kannan Devan Hills Plantation (KDHP) Tea Museum, the museum is located at the scenic Munnar hills, Idukki district. It welcomes visitors from across the country and globally for a glimpse of the flourishing tea industry and its history. The museum was set up at the Nallathanni Estate of Tata Tea in 2005.
Photographs, artifacts and other visuals will make you understand the unique history of the tea gardens and will enhance your understanding of tea manufacturing and production. Exhibits include the Rotorvane, the original tea roller that dates back to 1905; the Pelton Wheel, which was used to supply power; and rail engine wheel used in the Kundale Valley Light Railway line. There is an informative video that shows the history along with the manufacturing of tea which will be fascinating for kids and adults alike.
Tea is processed onsite for tourists and sold in the gift shop. You will find tea of various flavours and types. Tata Tea Museum is open from 9am to 4pm, Tuesday to Sunday. You will need to buy a ticket for entry. Those intending to take picture, will need to purchase a separate camera fee. For tourists, there are a number of resorts and hotels at the main Munnar town. While Aluva is the nearest railway station, those taking a flight will have to alight at Cochin International Airport. For complaints or queries on tickets, events, parking, photography, or others, reach the Tata Tea Museum support.
