About Tanah Lot
Tanah Lot is a popular tourist destination in Indonesia. Also called the Bali temple, Tanah Lot is located at Beraban village, Kediri district, Tabanan Regency. The Hindu shrine stands on a solid sea rock. There are venomous sea snakes surrounding the temple, which is believed to be guarding the temple. Overlooking the Indian ocean, Tanah Lot is claimed to have been founded by Dang Hyang Nirartha, a 16th century monk.
‘Tanah’ means land and ‘Lot’ means the sea. Wikipedia states “over one third of Tanah Lot’s rock is cleverly disguised artificial rock created during the Japanese-funded renovation program”. The rock’s original name was Tengah Lod. The temple is open from 7am to 7pm.
