SK-II is a Japanese cosmetics brand that was launched in 1980s. All the products were based on a compound derived from yeast. Operating as a subsidiary of Procter & Gamble, the premium skin care brand is gaining traction across North America, Europe and Australia. The brand was developed by Japanese scientists working with Chinese herbs and hot spring water. They observed that elderly women working in a Sake bakery had smooth, clear and younger looking hands after years of working with fermented yeast. This led to the research on yeast extract which is known as Pitera. The brand was relaunched in 1980 with its products based on Pitera. Pitera is a clear liquid rich in amino acids, vitamins, minerals and organic acids. Together with other nutrients, these help to drastically improve the skin’s surface refreshing and rejuvenating it thoroughly.
