About Shakespeare’s Globe
Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London is a renewal of the 16th century Elizabethan theatre house, and hosts outstanding plays by Shakespeare. Re-constructed near the original site, the present day playhouse is an outdoor theatre with gallery seating, a winter theatre, exhibition academy, and an educational centre.

Located on the historic riverbank of Thames, the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre is the brainchild of American actor and director Sam Wanamaker, bringing to life the true essence of a stage artist, and the excitement of watching timeless classics, of the Elizabethan era. Built of oak and thatch, and supported with wood trusses, and plastered walls, the theatre is a dedicated academy for displaying the brilliant works of Shakespeare. The open-to-sky outdoor auditorium has a 3-tier gallery seating of 1400, with a performing stage on the centre, built of Oak, wood, and plaster and a thatched roof.

Built 230 metres away from the original theatre, the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, stands built using wood sourced from 1000 oak trees, and 6000 dried stalks for the thatched roof. The architecture of the Globe theatre is similar to that of Coliseum of Rome, called as amphitheaters, and the original building floor plan is a polygon with 20 sides. A 40 minute guided tour is available for visitors, to learn about the history and timeline of the theatre. Visitors can enjoy live demonstrations, and view clothing robes of the Elizabethan era, and witness stage fighting during various times of the day.

Favorite all-time stage plays include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Bartholomew Fair, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and the Merchant of Venice. The shows vary with every season, and have sonnets and plays from the Jacobean era, from time to time.

The Globe theatre is nearby the Millennium Bridge, Tate Modern, Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, Borough Market, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Southbank London, the Shard, the Imperial War Museum, Waterloo Bridge, and the Museum of London, and is approximately within a 30-minute radius from the theatre. Daytime shows, are preferred over night show performances, as the weather gets colder, in the months of May and June, and summer is the busiest season, with packed shows, events, and activities. Night show performances, at the Globe theatre are best during the months of July and August.
