About Regional Transportation District
The Regional Transportation District is a US public transport system serving twelve counties in Denver, Colorado. Popular by its acronym RTD, the public transportation provider began in the year 1972 and currently boasts of more than 3,50,000 daily ridership. Serving primarily the Denver Metro Area, RTD operates bus, light rail and commuter rail services. It’s network includes close to 140 stations. Headquartered at Denver, Colorado, and employing close to 2,900, RTD claimed it served 3.8 million people through the various public transit services in 2018. As for the counties it serves, it includes Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Jefferson, Adams, Arapahoe, Douglas and Weld County. Besides bus and rail, it also regularly runs shuttles, vanpools and ADA paratransit services.

Though the bus services began as early as 1973, the light rail began operating only around 1994. There are ten rail lines serving 53 stations. The routes include A – Union Station to Denver Airport Station, B – Union Station to Westminister, C – Union Station to Littleton, D – 18th & California to Littleton, E – Union Station to RidgeGate Parkway, F – 18th and California to RidgeGate Parkway Station, G – Union Station to Wheat Ridge Ward Station, L – 30th & Downing to 16th & Stout, R – Peoria Station to RidgeGate Parkway, and W – Union Station to Jeffco Golden Station.

The website has a map with complete schedule. Simply enter the route and you can get the current rail and bus schedules. It includes the route number, route name and major streets. The schedules also list the SkyRide schedules connecting the airport and all the regional routes connected by the bus. RTD regularly runs the free MetroRide connecting commuters between Union Station Bus Concourse and Civic Center Station. For exploring tourist sights, you have the free MallRide.

There are tools available to help commuters plan their journey ahead. The Rider Alerts will update if there are detours, delays and stop closures in a route or station. And the Trip Planner is useful to plan your journey by just inputting origin and destination. Visit any nearest transit station to pick up printed copies of schedules and system maps.

If you want to park your car and take a bus, look for Park-n-Ride. There are more than 70 such locations in the metro area allowing you to park for free the first 24 hours. There will be charges if you plan to park for more than 24 hours. Locations where in-district and out-of-district passengers can park are published online. If you plan to use the parking facility more often, get a reserved parking by paying a monthly fee. The general parking lots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Coming to fares, there are single-ride tickets, day pass, monthly pass and ticket books. With a day pass you can take unlimited rides on bus and rail for the price of a round-trip. Passes can be purchased on board any bus, through ticket vending machines, mobile apps and sales outlets. Rates vary according to more zones. Airport tickets are priced at starting $10.50. There are discounted fares available for seniors and individuals with disabilities.

The most convenient way of traveling would be with MyRide, a smart card that can be purchased and loaded online. The reloadable fare card allows you to load up to $200 in cash. You can order more cards, add value and view transaction history online. And the card is valid on all regular bus, FlexRide, SkyRide, and train services. Commuters can reload online using any major debit or credit card. If you have lost your card, simply report to the customer support and they will transfer the balance to a new card. Note that there are no refunds for purchases of any fare products. For complaints or queries on tickets, passes, parking, lost and found items, refund, career, or others, reach the RTD support.
