About Reemployment Assistance
The state unemployment insurance programs are designed to help workers affected by mass layoffs or unemployed for other reasons. Every state in the US has mechanisms in place for workers to file for unemployment benefits. The unemployment insurance (UI) program in Florida is called Reemployment Assistance Benefits. Workers can avail benefits for up to 12 weeks within a single calendar year. Like other states, the requirements remain the same. The claimant must be unemployed for no fault of their own and are able and willing to work. The eligibility requirement also stipulates that the claimant must have worked in Florida during the past 12 to 18 months. After receiving the application, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) studies the case and determines whether one is eligible for benefits.
Filing a claim can be done through the DEO website. Besides online application, the office also invites workers to make claims at local office. The claim forms can be viewed and downloaded on the website. When preparing the same, you will need to provide your Social Security Number, driver’s license number (or other secondary identification) as well as employment history. Information of employers worked with in the past 18 months will also have to be provided. For non-US residents, alien registration numbers and work authorization forms will have to be furnished. The candidates must meet the state’s requirements for wages earned or time worked during the “base period” (first four calendar quarters). The requirements vary according to state. The program also requires that all candidates enroll in Workforce Services to ensure they are actively searching for employment.
The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity has developed the Connect platform for candidates to submit application online. The FAQ section has useful information for those unsure of the process and want to learn on the eligibility requirements. Once an application has been submitted and approved, expect payment in two to three weeks. Payment can be received in the form of debit card or direct bank deposit. Eligible workers will receive the Florida Debit Card that can be used for withdrawal. Enrolees must request benefit payment in Connect on a biweekly basis. For those whose application was rejected, you have the option to file an appeal requesting an administrative hearing. Request for an appeal can be submitted by mail, fax or online. According to the website, “the appeals hearing will be held by telephone with all involved parties on a conference call”. For complaints or queries on filing claim, appeal, payment, or others, reach the DEO support.
Can you please explain why we are not receiving the federal benefits? This clearly states that we are supposed to receive both state and federal unemployment within the same week! I have already received four or more weeks of state unemployment and not even one federal check! I feel this is unfair! I have done my part to get approved And then to not receive any federal? I have had several 12 hour days just trying to claim my weeks on a broken system. Not including constantly calling just to get a busy signal or to be told they can not help me with my problem. Also constant emails asking for help with no reply. All of this just for the small amount of $134 they approved my state benefits for. It’s a shame! Now I’m faced with the decision should I try to pay a bill or take care of my child? No mother should have to beg for help that should have already been approved and sent! I have worked since I was 17 and always paid my taxes! I have also took care of my children and all of their needs as a Independent mother but when faced with a shut down I have no choice but to rely on the government who is supposed to help us in this crisis!
It is insane the amount of stress you have to go through to claim unemployment. The government sure has no problem collecting taxes from every check. They also make sure to reach you by phone and text when it comes to voting. If you reach them for assistance , all you get is crickets. It’s ridiculous the obstacles we have to go through for assistance .
I lost my job on April 15th. For 7 weeks I have been trying to get through to Connect online, and/or the UIA number, at the same time. I Finally got through and was able to complete it on Friday May 29th. June 1st it stated on Connect that every week Retroactive $3,375.00 will be direct deposited on June 1st. I checked my account Monday June 1st, Tuesday June 2nd, Wednesday June 3rd, and Thursday June 4th it Still wasn’t there! I called UIA. The lady that answered said they sent it to an Old Bank Account that has been Closed for Years! Even though, I had put My Bank account information in That Is Active! Then I received a paper check in the mail on June 4th, for $275.00 One Week! And it Still says on the UIA website that I received a payment of $3,375.00 on June 2nd! Which I did Not! I went back into the website, and added my Correct Bank Account Again, for the Second time.
At first I was denied unemployment then they turn around and approve me but still have not received any regular unemployment benefits I started to get the 600 a week for some reason it stopped I don’t know because I changed my address or what can’t get no straight answer for unemployment
I applied for unemployment 3/15 and than on 4/10 I did another app in that site thinking I was just logging in to view the initial claim. I’ve spoken to many ppl from unemployment but no one has been able to help. The one lady I spoke to today said when I applied at both sites I just have been flagged. So I ask her to delete the second app or do something to push my application forward and she caught an attitude and hung up on me. So when will I be able to speak to someone that knows what there doing? I’ve sent 100’s of emails but no one replies to them.
I am beyond despair. I applied march 20. Almost 4 months and i have only received $275 from state unemployment, one federal payment, both last month. I am going to lose everything if i dont receive my unemployment. I need help! I have called or emailed state representatives, governor, deo, news stations.
I filed back in AUG of 2020 for the months of March, April, May, June Due to COVID and then found a job, then lost it due to COVID in October of 2020 and filed again for October for 2 weeks, then I got hired at ICP.
I have spent numerous times, hours at a time speaking with DEO representative and Supervisor and have gotten the same response each time. They tell me to be patient, I will be receiving a debit card with my unemployment funds on it.
We are now in APRIL of 2021 and I Have Not received a dime, a letter , not anything. I’m currently employed and don’t have hours to spend on the phone to be told the same thing. This is ridiculous. I guess DEO hopes that this happens to others so they don’t have to pay out, that people like myself and the situation will just go away.
And to be able to reach someone that can actually help us a joke
I really doubt, even me trying to email someone at DEO, is a waste of my time
I have made every attempt to comply with Unemployment thru Florida Connect. I spent 3-4 hours today trying to access my account, when I would get in and start completing required job information, I would without warning be dropped off line. The phone 1-833-FL-APPLY doesn’t work and does the same thing, promises you to speak with someone after you wait, then hangs up on you. I tried numerous times at different times of the day. I received an email requiring information about my work prospects that was previously not requested and in retrospect they are seeking detailed work search history. I went where I was instructed in the email and tried to provide the requested information, but the system would not accept it. I tried to apply for my current weeks today and it was impossible. Where do I turn for assistance, I sent an email on the Connect website the other night with job information and have heard nothing. The DEO emails are threatening and indicate I have failed to comply, that is not true. I have been fully cooperative, want to comply, but the system is dismally failing.
I received a letter dated 07/01/21 that said I must fill out this form attached and return it no later than 07/01/21 ! The same DAY it was mailed from Tallahassee !The post office stamp is 07/01/21. How is that even possible? I can’t believe this system went from being broken to practically non existent. Can’t get anyone to answer phone for over a month now. Registered with Employ Florida, can’t log in, did get an answer there, on phone she couldn’t answer any questions that didn’t pertain to registering on their web site. Then she couldn’t pull up my info. Said only thing I could do is start the process all over with Employ Florida. so I signed on and it will not let me accept their terms and conditions to register! They make something mandatory that is impossible, run you in circles with general questions on their web site that take you right back to beginning of list of general questions. I have been reduced to tears trying to call or navigate a broken system. It’s not like I am the only one. Why hasn’t this been fixed? The state received federal funds to help states with their unemployment assistance.
Can someone please help?
I filed in early may and I still haven’t gotten any help and it’s August. I’ve been calling and calling and emailing anyone I can think of. I’m crying as I write this. My life is in shambles. I’ve applied to over 2 thousand jobs as of yesterday and I’m “over qualified” for everything. Everyone wants unpaid interns and I’m trying to pay medical bills, my house and car and I have nothing left. I’ve already lost 2 houses due to covid and the government leading people not pay rent. My life has completely fallen apart and now I can’t even buy tampons or pads.
I’m so hopeless. I want to give up. I had done everything to dig myself out of my place in life. To be able to provide for my parents when they are old and not be in the same place as them when they had me if I decide to have kids.
Some days I just want to give up. If unemployment had come when they said it would I would have just been able to make it. But it’s been months.
Sometimes I just want to end it all.
I have been locked out for the 5 days and I did enter the correct pin number. So I tried to call to get help to unlock my account. I haven’t been able to speak to anyone. All I get is a recording about how busy this agency is and then I get disconnected. My time for filing is almost here and if I don’t file in time, I will lose my benefits and will most likely have to start over again with the process. Can anyone help me with this? Who can I call or send an email too since I can’t reach a human being……………
Have you gotten help? I’m having the same problem and I don’t know what to do. I’ve tried countless times to login and I get nothing. I’ve tried everything please let me know that you if Discover. I’d gladly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart
This is the most inadequate unemployment agency that exists. You got locked out because they say your account has been compromised by their web page being hacked. They lock account and even you cant get in and to beat all dont answer phone calls or emails cant claim your weeks or talk to someone about it.
I have been locked out the system for over a month. I finally spoke to someone got it fixed only to work for 2 days. I’m back trying to reach someone. It’s no way they don’t have enough employees at time like this. I am going to find a number in Tallahassee.
This is by far the most inept organization. They do NOT ever answer the phone. In a solid year not one time with numerous daily calls. They do NOT respond to emails. They do NOT care about the residents of Florida. The DEO atty general is even worse. Degrading and condescending to women. Literally after humiliating me as a women and a person laughed and hung up on me. Its disgusting and pathetic.
I have not received my last payment for 3 months and it just says “hold”. When I call it says they are too busy and tells me to go to the website and hangs up on me. When I go online it is telling me I need to call. There is also no way to email, it just goes to another questionnaire and ends there. 3 months and counting. What do I do? I did find a job but I was approved and told to request that week and really need the money. Covid was rough.
Tried calling every day all day for 3 months and just get the same message that hangs up on me. Even if I call right when they supposedly open in the AM.
