About Queen Victoria Building
The Queen Victoria Building is a 19th century structure that is a popular tourist attraction in Sydney, Australia. Located in the central business district of the city, the sandstone structure is capped with copper domes and is built in the style of the Romanesque Revival architecture. Designed by the architect George McRae, the building was constructed between 1893 and 1898.
There is a large shopping centre within the Queen Victoria Building. It houses over 150 retail shops, cafes, restaurants and boutiques. Visitors will be enthralled by the two large mechanical clocks, The Royal Clock and The Great Australian Clock. While the first clock features scenes of English royalty, the latter is designed by Chris Cook with scenes from Australian history. Another highlight is the centre dome that consists of an inner glass dome and exterior copper dome.
