About Posta Romana
Posta Romana is the main postal service provider in Romania. Founded in 1862, the state-owned enterprise has its headquarters at Bucharest and operates a network of branches throughout the country. There are currently over 950 post offices and a network of close to 5,500 subunits nationwide. Each week together they handle close to 11 million mails. Besides postal services, Posta Romana offers parcel delivery, logistics and a range of financial services. Employing more than 23,000, Posta Romana has products to cater to both individuals and businesses.
New customers can locate a post office nearest to them through the search tool on the website. You can locate an outlet by city, region or post code. Before going, you can make use of the tariff calculator to get an estimate of the costs. For an overview of the services, under letters you have domestic and international letter mail service. Standard letters with a one piece envelope cannot exceed 100gm in weight. Flat envelopes can contain up to 500gm. Packets can have up to 2kg weight. The standard mail can take up to 5 days for delivery across the country. Choose priority mail to have mail sent within 2 days. For international mails, the delivery can go up to 3 days for major locations.
Sending an important document or letter? Choose to send through Registered Mail as it is more secure and you also get an acknowledgement upon receipt. The express service is offered under the brand called Prioripost. With Prioripost, you can expect items to be received within 24 hours. For sending between counties, you have the Ultrapost, which is a door-to-door delivery service. The service ensures your item reaches destination with least delay. If sending within same city, you can expect delivery within 4 hours. It takes 24 hours if sending between counties.
Like other national postal operators, Posta Romana offers Express Mail Service (EMS). You can send documents and parcels to 105 countries through EMS. Once dispatched, you can track and trace the same online through the reference number. Coming to parcels, for local delivery the allowed weight is 10-15kg. The transit time can take up to 5 days. If sending goods outside the country, you are advised to check the customs and tax related regulations. The forms for custom formalities can be filled at any of the nearest outlet.
Besides posts and parcels, you can approach Posta Romana for money order, sending funds electronically, making payment of utilities or other government related services. The tariff for money order varies according to the amount. The payment is made in cash or into the bank account. You can expect the money order to be received within 3 days of sending. Electronic money order is received faster though. There is Western Union if you want to send money to friends or family outside the country. You can send money in a jiff to over 200 countries. The receiver just needs to show the MTCN number on the receipt along with a valid ID to gain access to the fund.
