About Philippine National Railways (PNR)
Philippine National Railways (PNR) is a state-owned enterprise that manages passenger transport in the largest island of Luzon in Philippines. Locally popular as Pambansang Daambakal ng Pilipinas, the railway company though boasts a history of more than 125 years, officially began as Philippine National Railways in the year 1964. Currently, it operates two commuter rail services – one in Metro Manila and the other in Bicol Region. The rail lines that are operational consist of the North Main Line (Green Line) and South Main Line (Orange Line). They are used by commuters in the Manila metropolitan area, Laguna, Quezon, Camarines Sur and Albay. In the past, PNR also served Tarlac, Bulacan, La Union, Batangas, Pampanga and Nueva Eija. Not just long-distance passenger trains, PNR also operates Metro trains in Manila. The Commuter Express which is locally popular as the Commex is the rail service that serves the Manila metropolitan area. The trains run every day between Manila and Binan City, Laguna. The trains start at Tutuban and connects stations up to Alabang, Manatid, Calamba, IRRI and Governor Pascual station. Serving people in the Bicol region is the Bicol Commuter rain. The service connects stations starting with Tagkawayan, in Quezon province to Ligao City, in Albay. The fares for journey vary according to seat type. You have Executive Sleeper, Family Sleeper, Reclining Seat and Economy Seat. You can choose from both air conditioned and non-AC coaches. Tickets can be purchased at the station counter. Senior citizens and individuals with disability can purchase tickets with a 20% discount. Travel within suburban areas can be managed through the Manila Light Rail Transit System.
