About Notre-Dame Cathedral
Notre-Dame Cathedral is a French architectural marvel, built between 1163 and 1345. Also known as Notre-Dame de Paris, the cathedral is located on the Paris Island called Ile de la Cite. It is open all days of the year and is free for entry. The cathedral has seen several renovations throughout the years. It was converted into a storage warehouse for food, during the French Revolution.
The twin towers at the cathedral go as high as 69 meters. There is one large bell weighing 13 tons seen in the South Tower, wile on North Tower you will find close to four bells. The cathedral is still in use by the Roman Catholic Church and serves as the seat of the Archbishop of Paris.
The cathedral is easily accessible by metro, bus or cab. If you are taking a metro, you need to alight at Line 4 Station City or St Michael, Line 1/11 Station City Hall, Line 10 Station Maubert-Mutualite or Cluny-La Sorbonne or Lines 7/11/14 Station Chatelet. Visitors can see the schedule for regular events on the website. The cathedral is open for visitation from 8am to 6.45pm.
