About National Museum of Scotland
National Museum of Scotland is one of the most visited museums in the world. A popular tourist attraction in Scotland, the museum was opened in the year 1866 and is located in Edinburgh, Scotland. Part of National Museums Scotland, the museum has 16 galleries housing more than 8,000 objects. They cover nature, art, design, fashion, science and technology. Some of the highlights include a large T. rex skeleton, Alexander Fleming’s Nobel Prize Gold medal for penicillin, 3,000 year old mummies and specimens collected by Charles Darwin. There is also the stuffed body of Dolly the sheep (first mammal to be cloned from an adult cell).

The National Museum of Scotland is open from 10am to 5pm every day. Admission to the museum is free. If you are member, you can get unlimited access to special exhibitions, discounts on entry to four museums and shops. Membership to the National Museums Scotland must be renewed annually.

On the website, you can keep track of the ongoing and upcoming events. There is also an online database with a selection of 12 million objects and specimens. Featured collections include Ancient Egypt, Fashion and Style, Whales/Dolphins/Porpoises, Japanese Woodblock Prints, The Romans, Minerals and Lighthouses.
