About Monster High

Monster High is a popular American doll franchise, created and launched by Mattel, an American multinational children and family entertainment company, in July 2010. The character of the doll line is inspired by the characters from monster movies, thriller fiction and sci-fi horror. The doll line was created by Garrett Sander, in collaboration with Kellee Riley and Glen Hanson, who drafted the illustrations. Besides the famous dolls, Monster High has included other products into its portfolio. They include stationery dolls, bags, key chains, book series, playsets and various other toys. After three years of the launch, in 2013 Monster High dolls recorded a growth in the sales percentage as compared to Mattel’s Barbie, which recorded plummeted sales by at least 12%. Some of the best-selling dolls from Monster High includes Draculaura Ghoul Spirit Doll, Frankie Stein Ghoul Spirit Doll, Ghoul-to-Bat Transformation Draculaura Doll, Frankie & Alivia Stein Dolls,  Signature Look Core Clawdeen Wolf Doll, and Monster High Ghoul Beauty Collection.

Almost every character from the Monster High has got wings, claws and fangs, which sets it apart from other doll brands. It all started in 2010 when a new animated web series, Monster High, was uploaded on YouTube by Mattel. The same was released as direct-to-video and was broadcasted as specials, on Nickelodeon. The web series was a premise for all the doll characters that Monster High later created and were stocked by top retail outlets. Some of the most popular characters from the web series includes Frankie Stein, Draculaura, Lagoona Blue, Ghoulia Yelps, Cleo de Nile became the face of Monster High dolls. The look for the dolls came as a concept when the creator Garrett Sander and his brother, Darren, went shopping with the girls and noticed them buying goth fashion items.

Monster High is also known for the book series following the premise of the web series. The first Monster High book series was written by Lisi Harrison. First book Monster High novel was released by Mattel on September 26 2010, followed by The Ghoul Next Door, Where There’s a Wolf, There’s a Way & Back, and Deader Than Ever. The second series came from Gitty Daneshvari which was titled as “Monster High Ghoulfriends” and had a collection of 5 books in it. Latest book series was created by Nessi Monstrata and titled as “Monster High Diaries”. Monster High Diaries is a collection of 5 books and were released in periods from 2015 and 2016.
