The Ministry of Interior in Israel is responsible for overseeing everything concerning visas, citizenship, identity cards and other immigration related matters. Formed in the year 1948, the Ministry’s various responsibilities include providing citizenship and permanent resident status; issuing entry visas; issuing Israeli passports; issuing Israeli identity cards; among others.

All visitors coming to Israel must obtain a visa. However, the country allows visitors from certain countries to enter without visas. Visa exemption is available for tourism purposes for residents of close to 100 countries. Popular in the list include citizens of the European Union, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan and United States.

Popular types of visas include immigration visa, A/2 Student Visa, B/1 Work Visa, B/2 Visitor’s Visa and official government visas. The A/2 Student Visa is valid for up to one year and for multiple entries. A B/2 visa is valid for up to three months from the date of issue.
