About Income Tax Dept
The Income Tax Department officially launched its services in the year 1922. The Department functions under the supervision of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). Currently, there are about 60,000 personnel located in more than 500 cities and towns across India. The tax department take necessary actions wherever the provisions of Direct Tax Laws are violated or not fulfilled.
Income Tax in India are divided into two types – Direct Taxes and Indirect Taxes. Direct Taxes include Income Tax & Wealth Tax and Indirect Taxes include VAT, Sales Tax and Service Tax. Taxes are collected from individuals who earn more than a specified amount of annual income. The tax collected is used by the government for running development and social projects across the country.
