About Howrah Junction
Howrah Junction (station code HWH) is one of the oldest railway stations in India, opened in the year 1854. The station, designed by the East Indian Railway Company, serves commuters to and from Kolkata. Located in Howrah, a Kolkata suburb and popular tourist destination, the station has 23 platforms and 25 tracks. The major lines consist of Howrah-Delhi, Howrah-Nagpur-Mumbai, Howrah-Chennai, Howrah-Allahabad-Mumbai, Howrah-New Jalpaiguri, Howrah-Gaya-Delhi and Grand Chord. Each day more than 600 trains pass through Howrah Junction, making it one of the busiest in India.

Travellers can visit the Indian Railways website to see the schedule of complete list of trains. You can see the number of stops along with operational days and arrival/departure time. If you want to book a ticket, you can visit the IRCTC portal. There you can input the origin/destination, date and proceed to pay using debit/credit card and net banking. You can view and manage all tickets by signing into account. If you have a ticket on Waiting List, you can check the status through the PNR number. Booking and managing tickets can also be done through the IRCTC smartphone app.

Managed by the Eastern Railway and South Eastern Railway, Howrah Junction has better amenities and passenger services compared to other stations. The existing facilities include restaurants, food stalls, waiting lounge, computerised reservation desks, accommodation/dorm, and parking facility.
