hindustan-zincHindustan Zinc Ltd traces its history to the year 1942 when a lead smelting plant was set up at Tundoo in Bihar. Later, in 1944 Metal Corporation of India was established, and then came the incorporation of Hindustan Zinc in 1966. Today, the company is the world’s largest integrated producer of zinc. Hindustan Zinc is also the largest primary producer of silver in India.

Hindustan Zinch has reserves and resources of 313 million tonnes. Its mine at Rampura Agucha is the largest zinc producing mine in the world. Furthermore, Hindustan Zinc has invested about Rs 12,000 crore for three large expansion projects in Rajasthan.

To promote green energy, Hindustan Zinch has set up wind energy farms in Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. The company’s smelters are located at Chanderiya, Debari and Dariba in the state of Rajasthan and Vizag in Andhra Pradesh.

Headquartered in Udaipur, India, Hindustan Zinch employs over 7,000 people across the country. The company is ranked the 2nd Best Employer in India and one of 25 best in Asia, according to a study by the Hewitt Associates.

In 2010-11, Hindustan Zinc had revenues of Rs 109 billion. The company is governed jointly by Vendanta Industries and Government of India, which has close to 30% stake.
